When you observe others committing errors, you should treat their actions as a stern warning for yourself. It is vital that you do not follow in their footsteps, and you must never imitate such behaviour. Learning what is good and avoiding what is bad is a very simple principle, yet one must ask: how many people can truly put this into practice in their daily lives?
When people are free from obstacles and can master their own lives, they are often able to follow the norms set by their schools and families. However, when and manifest, one may find it difficult to maintain control or adhere to those standards. This is precisely the moment when one creates negative causes, reaps evil consequences, and suffers. At such times, one loses the ability to master oneself and becomes a slave to one's own karma, finding it impossible to act according to one's own will.
As a practitioner, you must maintain your awareness at all times. When you find yourself in such a state, you should engage in the following practices to regain control and purify your mind:
Do not allow your body and mind to remain under the control of these external forces; this is the true meaning of stopping evil. To see evil and use it as a warning, and to have a clear path to follow—this is what every practitioner must do. Namo Amituofo.
