The Ancient Demon Who Found Peace in the Wind

This is a record of an interview with Mo Sha-sa, a primordial demon who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. He now resides in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This account reflects upon his existence spanning approximately 180 trillion years. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on April 22, 2025.

Mo Sha-sa speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. On our home planet, one cannot see clouds. It is not like Earth, where you have such beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and the golden light that follows. The golden light here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is a very special phenomenon. This golden light represents the radiance of the Buddha, emitted from the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss of Namo Amituofo. It is through this that one realises the magnificence of this Centre. The demon crowds who have been subdued by Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su are currently above, listening to the teachings. I am one of those chosen to be interviewed.

My name is Mo Sha-sa. I come from the demon crowds of the Dharma Realm, and I have a 'demon age' of 180 trillion years. This period of time is not short by any means. As for how I spent my days in the Demon Realm? Now that I am situated on the Western Dharma-Nature Land at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, if I were to trace back that past life—whether it was the life of the demon crowds or otherwise—I generally do not like to recall it. Once I start remembering, there is always an emotional stirring in my heart. But since I am already on the Western Dharma-Nature Land, even if there are stirrings, I do not need to worry about the retribution of the laws of karma and cause and effect. So, I will set my heart at ease and speak directly."

A Tragic Origin: The 'Human White Mouse'

"Mo Sha-sa was originally a small child on a planet in the Dharma Realm. After the land was irrigated and nourished, it gained energy, and I became a small life form on that planet. Such small life forms were very rare on our planet, so I grew up surrounded by the care of many. My elders doted on me, which unfortunately fostered my habit of arrogance. I had parents and a family. The people on our planet all possessed a thin, light body, so our movements were very swift. However, we were not as unrestrained as spirits, because although we had bodies, we were still bound. This layer of body was actually a shell protecting our spiritual nature. Every being was like this, only the outer forms differed. The differences came from different parents. Although there were similarities between parents and children, they were not exactly the same; this is somewhat similar to the parent-child relationship of humans on Earth.

However, our birth was not through the physical union of parents. Instead, our parents would transform the purest part of their hearts into a liquid state, then into certain parts of the body, forming a single entity, and then irrigate the land. When this energy was accepted by a spirit beneath the ground, it would be nourished and begin to grow, eventually emerging from the ground as a child. Afterwards, the parents would take over the upbringing. This is a very special way of growing, completely different from the birth process of a fetus on Earth. It allows one to witness the various wondrous situations in the universe, and the Dharma Realm is even more so. I grew up under the care of my parents, and although I developed an arrogant heart, I was also very intelligent. When my parents grew old and passed away one after another, I became a strong youth. 'Youth' here refers to a more mature state compared to the childhood period. However, after the elders passed away, I lost my support, and the source of energy was cut off. The energy originally provided by my parents now had to be sought by myself. It was only then that I truly realised how precious it was to have parents alive. I did not have to worry about a lack of energy, and I was protected when I went out. In terms of learning, my parents had already prepared everything; I only needed to focus on absorbing it, without having to expend effort to find materials or tools, and I could grow naturally."

The Burden of a Historical Name

"When I grew to the stage of a mature civilian, people would usually look for a partner. We also had the distinction of male and female. Although there was no physical contact between bodies, our minds could communicate with each other. As long as both were willing, we could become partners. But I did not make such a choice; I chose to remain single. This is a very free choice on our planet, and it is also very natural. One could often meet single noble males or single females. Unless it was in the later stages, when there was a deep emotional exchange between a man and a woman, they might become a family and leave the Demon Realm. This is what the 'old demons' are teaching us now: many children, because their karma is too heavy, are unable to accept the Buddha's teachings. Therefore, there must be an active force to change the children's incorrect behaviours, including the habit of not respecting parents and elders, and acting according to one's own whims. All of this requires a complete family to give children a normal personality development. But we were quite lacking in this aspect of family. Especially during interstellar wars, those who could truly become warriors were all male. And our family, for generations, had only one son in each generation. As for what will happen in the future, I am actually not clear now. I cannot predict whether it is still possible to conceive offspring in the future. Whether I will become a part of the demon crowds again is also hard to say.

I just mentioned the relationship between males and females on the planet; it developed so naturally. Why bring this up? Because many planets are spiritual planets and do not have the existence of bodies. Our planet still had a protective layer, which is extremely rare. Because of this rare situation, I specifically brought it up so that everyone could understand. This protective layer is not as complex as the human body; it does not contain so many spaces and internal organs. The organs of the human body contain many spaces and beings. Our protective layer is as thin as a piece of paper or gauze, but it is very hard and not easily punctured. Its function is to protect the spiritual nature beneath this skin, allowing the spirit to dominate the body and behaviour of that lifetime."

The Wisdom of the Ancients

"The people of our planet had very long lifespans. Calculated by Earth time, every person's life could reach a thousand years, or even longer. A thousand years was considered short-lived; if one was long-lived, one could reach ten thousand years. 'A thousand years, a thousand years, ten thousand years'—these were actual ages on our planet. I see the wisdom of the ancient ancestors in China, and I also feel it is quite remarkable. I believe that in their era, there must have been people who had spiritual contact with outer space, which is why they knew how to use these terms. 'A thousand years' is the most basic age on our planet, and 'ten thousand years' is a combination of ten 'thousand years,' which is the age of the elderly citizens. Generally, everyone's lifestyle is like the life of the human world on Earth; there are seven emotions and six desires, and there is also a need for spiritual exchange and mutual understanding.

It was not until I lived to about three thousand years old that the energy of our planet began to run out, and the entire nation gradually moved towards a state of weakness, unable to continue to survive. But before it was completely exterminated, another force arrived—the force of the Demon Realm. They took over our planet, and our people thus became a part of the Demon Realm. The Demon Realm provided dark power and energy, allowing those living beings to continue to survive, but they lost the light in their hearts. Replacing it was the power of darkness. This situation is actually very common in interstellar space. When a planet that is about to dry up and can no longer nurture life appears, if other planets can provide enough energy, it can be supplemented and continued. If it cannot be supplemented, then the residents need to go outside to develop. However, as long as they are willing to return, the planet will be quite welcoming. This is very consistent with what is said in the Buddha's teachings: 'Do not ask about the comer,' which is the phrase Practitioner Su often mentioned before: 'Only ask about coming to learn, do not ask about teaching when leaving.' In short, as long as they are willing to return, it is fine."

The Descent into Darkness

"Later, one of our planet's citizens unified the entire kingdom, but not long after, the external dark forces occupied the planet. From then on, our planet became a demon planet. Looking back now, I feel that if the demon crowds had not retreated at that time, allowing that evil force to take advantage of the situation, our planet would not have been so miserable. What is called 'miserable' is that one after another, many citizens fell from high places to very low places. Their lives were destroyed, their spiritual nature was severely damaged, and they could not continue to survive, eventually falling to the ground—this was death. Such a result caused countless death cases.

When the dark forces first arrived, we went from being strangers to being familiar with them. At first, we did not know that the power they projected was so strong. Just like the magnetic field during purification, there would be a huge impact. I only understand now that the reason why that shocking power was so obvious was because you were all still young, so when you came into contact with this purification power, the impact you felt was particularly profound and intense.

I mentioned the interstellar wars before. At that time, the targets of recruitment were the sons in the family, and our family was a single line for generations; my generation also had only one son. At that time, I was still very young. Slowly, as I entered the interstellar war, my character began to change. When I became the defeated side and was captured, I was taken to another planet and began to live the life of a demon. From that time on, I was far away from my original planet, and my 'demon age' should be calculated from this time, lasting 180 trillion years—not short. On that planet, I lived a new life, adapted to a new environment, and met new people, but the surroundings were all people from the Demon Realm, so I quickly integrated into the situation there. Although the memories of the past still entangled my life, they slowly faded in the busyness. If I hadn't recalled it now, I would have almost forgotten it. Actually, it wasn't forgotten; it was suppressed by me. In fact, this past history was not truly forgotten. It turns out that memory is like this: even if you don't want to think about it or say it out loud, it is still buried deep in your mind, in the memory storage of your spiritual nature."

The Power of the Present Moment

"Perhaps we have the ability to see our past lives; this is the so-called ability to see the 'Alaya consciousness.' If this ability can be used well, it can allow us to understand the facts of our past and grasp the present. Just like the days on the Western Dharma-Nature Land, Practitioner Su once said: 'There is no past, no future, only the present.' This sentence was very useful to me, so I kept chanting the Buddha's name, chanting this Buddha-name to the end. If I hadn't accepted this interview, I wouldn't have uncovered this underlying memory. But being able to face it calmly is also good, just like a person who wants to receive treatment must first figure out their own problems to know where to start. If you don't even know where the problem comes from, the effect of the treatment will naturally be limited.

I now have a reclusive personality. This personality is expressed in the fact that I don't like to deal with other demon crowds, and my subjective consciousness is very strong; I always think that what I think is right. Of course, there are many demons with strong subjectivity, but they can still get along with people and are good at communication. As for me, I have strong subjectivity and don't like to deal with people, but my ability is very strong. As long as it is something I want to do, I usually go all out and succeed. But after success, to whom does that glory belong? Whatever, I don't really care. This is my 'carefree' personality; what I value is the process, and as for the result, let it be. It turns out that there are seeds of Buddha's teachings hidden in my personality, perhaps from the influence of the education on the previous planet, which finally allowed the current me, the me as a demon, to still retain a little positive influence. Because of this, I often attribute glory to others, and I don't care about the amount of credit myself. This can be considered acting according to my own whims, and it is also a very special kind of personality. Because in the Demon Realm, everyone likes to show off their battle achievements and show off their results, but I don't like that. The quieter and more silent, the better. Because of this, although I am reclusive, there is still a group of people who like to be with me. They can know my ideas from me and then absorb the results to become their glory. And the previous process of hard work was done by me. Even if they never mention it, I don't care. Actually, this instead enriched my own ability. So, it is not without reason that I could become a Demon King and later an old demon."

The Ghost in the Wind

"After becoming a Demon King, I still maintained this style: mainly responsible for decision-making, leading the demon sons and grandsons to conduct wars, and the final glory went to them. Therefore, the Demon Kings and demon sons and grandsons under me were all very willing to work with me. Because there was always glory added to them, which made them feel happy. I also felt happy myself, because bringing happiness to others is also giving happiness to oneself. Perhaps, it is this unspoken kindness. Kindness is kindness, why emphasize it? But saying it now is to let everyone understand what I mean. It is precisely because of this foundation of kindness that I was able to survive in the Demon Realm for 180 trillion years. In fact, like most old demons, when I had about 80 trillion years left, I chose to find a place to live in seclusion and no longer ask about current events. I handed over the demon group I established to the juniors below to manage and take over, and I waved my sleeves, not leaving a single cloud behind, haha.

The place I looked for to enter samadhi was in the wind. Wind is very rare on the planet. I chose to let myself become a part of the wind. This wind does not have to drift everywhere; it can exist in the wind, among the molecules in the air. Air molecules are very small. After the wind stops, wherever it lands, the air molecules settle there and no longer move. So, I have no fixed abode, but this does not affect my state of entering samadhi in the air molecules of the wind. I can know at any time whether this air molecule is moving, but I can keep my heart unmoved. My existence is equivalent to non-existence. You can imagine such days; I spent 80 trillion years like this. Of course, I have settled in very quiet places and have not been discovered for a long time, so I paused for a long time. Sometimes I would be blown by strong winds, cooking winds, or hurricanes. What is blown is the rotation of air molecules, but my spirit can follow the rotation, while my heart does not need to turn. Such existence is equivalent to no existence. Sometimes it is like a breeze passing by, and I rise and fall among the air molecules, which does not affect my meditative concentration in the air molecules at all. Taking this opportunity to hone my meditative concentration is also quite good. Sure enough, I won a body of good meditative concentration; no matter what external interference there is, it will not affect me.

80 trillion years of time is not so easy to pass, but it also seems quite easy. Because those have already become the past, so I can say so. But at that time, when I was a molecule of air, I didn't think about it specifically, because no thoughts could be moved. Although I could understand my situation clearly, I didn't continue to think about it. I didn't think about it anymore, so where did the thinking come from? This is what is called meditative concentration. If there is thinking, it is not called concentration; that is called delusion. If delusion manifests, that would be bad. That is equivalent to telling cause and effect: 'I am here, come and find me!' Who would be such a fool? No one would. I don't want to fall into the consequence of being sucked away by cause and effect."

The Light of the Buddha

"As far as we know, the demon crowds are too dark; their bodies are too dark, and there is no light anywhere, so from the top of the head to the soles of the feet, what corresponds is the demon—Demon King, demon energy, demon sons, demon grandsons. Of course, there is no such light on the demon crowds. My entering samadhi in the wind might not be believed by the Demon Kings, sons, and grandsons. They don't believe that an old demon is in the wind, is a part of the ghosts in the wind. Many demon crowds are unwilling to accept such a fact, feeling that it seems to belittle themselves, so they simply never mention it. In fact, why be like this? Saying it can instead improve one's spiritual endurance, that is, the quality of spiritual nature. It is not that it is fragile and falls as soon as it is hit. Such demon crowds cannot live to 180 trillion years. So, don't be too rigid when being a person; being able to be soft and hard, combining softness and hardness, is the clever way.

In the spiritual realm, one can see very clearly. The eyes of the human world are like the fourfold assembly of disciples. Your human eyes are used to see many things: truth, falsehood, good, and evil. I hope that after you see them, you can learn and grow from them. Humans are truly very precious. If you can grasp it well, a human body is very hard to come by. When potential manifests, it often makes people feel inconceivable. Because this potential also includes the situation of hard work in this life, which is purification.

So, regarding how to enter the Dharma-Nature Land, I am not doing it to compete for energy or to win over the other party to satisfy my curiosity or wishes. This time, when I came to the Dharma Realm planet, I used oxygen. Therefore, the most precious components in air molecules are oxygen and carbon dioxide 'CO2,' which are all necessary for life.

One day not long ago, while I was in the air molecules, I was actually surrounded by a powerful light. This light was very warm. I was originally unmoved, but it seemed to directly break the space of the air molecules and sweep across my body. This is quite special. Because the air molecule I was in was protected by me, just like a protective film of the body, protecting my body. In 80 trillion years, it had never been invaded, but this light actually penetrated the protective layer of the air molecules and swept across my body. Afterwards, it was like a strong wind blowing, blowing me directly away from the air. But at this time, it was no longer a state of samadhi. I was in the process of exiting samadhi, being blown away while being blown to the Western Dharma-Nature Land. I didn't want to exit samadhi at all, but I also followed the conditions. Since the causal conditions were arranged this way, then let it progress this way. So, I was blown to the Western Dharma-Nature Land. The distance in this space is very far. One is a planet in the Dharma Realm; do you know that on Earth—the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia—this distance, if viewed from the human body or even at an extremely fast speed, would take a long time to reach from one end to the other. But at this time, in an extremely short time, I was sent to the Western Dharma-Nature Land on Earth in the air molecules."

A New Life in the Dharma-Nature Land

"The days after being on the Dharma-Nature Land are, of course, completely different from life in air molecules; they are worlds apart. I have learned a lot here, seen the lives of the people here, and know that being a human in the six realms of rebirth is really not an easy thing. Greed, anger, delusion, arrogance, doubt, wealth, lust, fame, food, and sleep—I seem to be somewhat familiar with them. On the previous planet, a part of life was also lived like this, but it was not so polluted. Because there are also many demon crowds intervening in the human body, this part is something many people do not know. If it weren't for the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre revealing everything, or passing messages through interviewing us demons, telling everyone about many situations of being controlled by demons, everyone would be angry after hearing it: 'How is it possible! I am controlled by demons?' Everyone always hopes to live 'their own' life, not a life of 'being controlled.' But in fact, it is so. Because your own selfishness and ego have already obliterated your spiritual nature and entered a deeper level of selfishness and ego. At this time, what replaces your spirit is the demon crowds. Otherwise, where would the 'more selfish' and 'more ego' come from? Ordinary people also hope that after various experiences or benefits in the world, they can live a good life in their later years. This is understandable and not a forced demand. Some people do have such blessings and accept such arrangements, which is not bad, is it? What kind of arrangement it is, I have always followed the conditions.

I can tell the demon crowds who hear my words: most of you are still in the Demon Realm. The days in the Demon Realm can be long or short. If you know how to advance and retreat, the demon crowds also have cultivation; they are not just rushing around. Among my demon sons and grandsons, many must have certain rules, otherwise, they will be punished. Rules in the Buddha's teachings are 'precepts.' If the precepts are not kept, of course, they will be punished. But I look at Namo Amituofo, Teacher Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su; there is no punishment here. This is education with love, using the power of compassion, using the output of language, hoping that the other party can accept transformation, change their personality, and let their spiritual nature improve. After the spiritual nature improves, there is a chance to see one's true nature. Good, this is the self-expectation of the practitioners themselves in the Buddha-land, which is very good.

If there is an 'ego,' there is definitely no way to see one's true nature. Practitioner Su also teaches everyone this very clearly in normal times. But 'no ego'—how can it be an easy thing to say? It is quite difficult. People who have lived in the 'ego' for a long time—now, is it so simple to remove the 'ego'? Some, even if they have restrained themselves, hope that they will suffer less, and also hope that their juniors can enter the temple early to accept the influence of the Buddha's teachings. All these things, actually, we are in your hearts; whatever you are thinking, we know clearly. And what you think can naturally turn into a force. This force is in the dark cause and effect, and it will be put into action. Let you achieve your wishes; it depends on what kind of wish you have, whether it conforms to the reality of life or is far away from the reality of life."

The Path to Awakening

"People are difficult to cut off when it comes to emotions. This is not just for women; men are the same, but men are good at hiding their emotions and indicating that they do not exist. Here, I, Mo Sha-sa, share with you from my own experience: if you want to practice the Buddha's teachings, want to be pure, and want to see your true nature, your spiritual nature must be clean and transparent without a trace of pollution to be able to see your true nature. Such a soul is quite kind, without a little bit of 'self,' and zero privacy is possible. As long as there is a little bit of one's own intention, it won't work. Or if things you don't want others to know are exposed, at this time, can you look at it according to conditions? That is to understand that everything is karmic conditions and the causes and effects, and to understand that such a state is not something you can solve by your own power, unless you are a Buddha or Bodhisattva who has come again; then it is possible.

You are not yet as old as this old demon, and you don't need to live the life of reincarnation for one lifetime after another. In this lifetime, you must return to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Many of us old demons on the Western Dharma-Nature Land are sincere and earnest; we just hope not to suffer anymore. The suffering of the past—without this fate, one cannot even speak of it. The days on the Dharma-Nature Land are very good, definitely not as terrifying as the demon crowds imagine. So, what I have seen and heard on the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I will report to everyone here. I hope my demon sons and grandsons who hear and see the good life I have here will also come with me.

However, this time the old demon cannot take you, but must go to another world; that world is called the 'Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.' But the so-called impermanence also includes the transformation of evil into good, the bad into the good, and the 'yes' into the 'no.' If the demon sons and grandsons who hear my teachings know, Sha-sa's personality is indeed to work hard in the process, but the result is left to conditions. After all, there are many factors interfering with the result. For example, the Bodhisattva we are interviewing now, you are also really working hard, receiving a lot of spell interference from the ancient demons of the Dharma Realm; this I can see. So, you can rest assured about this process; you can output as much as you can, and it doesn't matter if you can't. I believe other old demons will add to it.

The important thing is that we must be very grateful to Namo Amituofo, as well as Teacher Xia Lianju and Practitioner Su for saving us, giving us ancient demons a chance to come to such a good environment. I believe our kindness and Buddha-nature will always be opened. As for the method of opening, I have now grasped the direction, which is of course the teachings that Namo Amituofo often gives to everyone. Prostrations, chanting the Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras in the morning service are very important. In fact, the teachings of Namo Amituofo and Teacher Xia Lianju to the fourfold assembly of disciples are also teachings to us. We cherish this part very much, and it is very useful to us. This is also what is said to those who are about to practice. Once you become a practitioner, this blessing is too great, too great. Those who understand the words should continue, and those who don't understand should strengthen themselves.

So, in the process, I realized that prostrations, chanting the Buddha's name, and reciting the Sutras are very important for purification and seeing one's true nature. Because being able to get the invitation of spirits and dissolution of karma from the Buddha-light of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, where Namo Amituofo resides, is indeed something every being needs. It seems that dissolving karma and clearing obstacles is also the true criterion, true truth, and true path of the universe. As long as you work hard for one more point, you will definitely get one point of results. I believe that any effort made in the Buddha-land will not disappear into thin air; at the same time, any evil deeds done will also be seen very clearly."

A Final Plea to the Descendants

"Here, Mo Sha-sa tells my juniors: at this time, I am living a very good life on the Western Dharma-Nature Land, which you definitely cannot imagine. This is not an environment that the demon crowds can give to their juniors. No matter how old an ancient demon is, he cannot give his juniors such a good, bright, open, and kind environment for the development of spiritual nature. So, I will encourage you to surrender as soon as possible. You must know that it is not an easy thing for Namo Amituofo to reside in the human world. In 180 trillion years, I have probably only encountered this once. You are quite lucky to have encountered it now. Unless you are more senior than me, otherwise, juniors, what reason do you have to stop your steps? Or, are you still casting spells to attack Practitioner Su? Stop quickly, come in and join the ranks of surrender. This is my sincere suggestion and expectation.

As for how to save the human world? I have observed the days of this period and found that everyone's personality is indeed not easy to change in the stubbornness; I have nothing to say about this, the demon crowds indeed have this characteristic. But since Namo Amituofo, Teacher Xia Lianju, and Practitioner Su have the ability to subdue the demon crowds, I believe that your personality in this part can also be subdued or improved. It's just that Practitioner Su is working hard, because it is understandable that this is not an easy thing to do. But I believe that with your firm power, fourfold assembly of disciples, your success is definitely in sight. But Buddha's saving also requires self-saving; you must grasp the opportunity. Self-saving is the way, and then you will be saved. You are the representatives of the human world; once you are saved, it means that after that, you have delivered many beings, and they are also saved beings. So, if you are delivered, they are delivered. This is my point of view and opinion.

As for the Demon Realm? That is even more clearly placed before our eyes. The fact is that Practitioner Su has already delivered immeasurable demon crowds, as well as beings in the spiritual realm. Although the current focus is on delivering demon crowds, in fact, while delivering demon crowds, Practitioner Su also delivered countless beings in the spiritual realm. Practitioner Su has always been delivering beings in the spiritual realm. Demon crowds, this rigid and difficult-to-subdue personality, Practitioner Su recently activated, and only then did he subdue us and send us to the Western Dharma-Nature Land.
