A true teacher understands the spiritual capacity of all beings. They perceive the level of purification each person has attained and can discern whether a student’s past and present situations align with the requirements of this specific Dharma path. The teacher knows clearly that they must wait for the one who is truly ready to receive the transmission.

The Qualities of a Pure Land Successor

What are the qualities required for one to carry on the Pure Land teachings? A successor must be purified and clear in their practice. They must embody the following virtues:

  • (Discipline), Concentration and Wisdom: A life lived in accordance with the fundamental pillars of the Buddha's path.
  • Awakened being: The ultimate realization of one's true nature, which is the hallmark of a successful practitioner.
