Ma Yun, a renowned entrepreneur, sought spiritual deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. This interview, recorded on September 9, 2018, by the chief writer Venerable HaiZe, details his transformative journey from a life of worldly pursuit to one of spiritual and his commitment to the propagation of the .

Ma Yun speaks:

"Last night, I suddenly felt a profound sense of liberation in my heart. My chest felt lighter, and I found myself taking a deep, involuntary breath, as if a heavy weight that had been lingering there for days had finally dissolved. It must be the help of my Dharma brother that brought about such a positive change. I am truly grateful for this shift.

The Connection Between Spirit and Body

Sometimes, our physical and mental states are deeply interconnected, while at other times, they seem worlds apart. During the morning deliverance sessions, my body is fast asleep, yet my spirit travels automatically to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia—more punctual than any alarm clock. So, it is true what people say: the spirit can indeed leave at night. For me, these morning sessions have become a vital source of energy and a time for spiritual re-education. My life now feels far more fulfilling and meaningful than it ever did before.

In the past, I spent my days and nights struggling, overthinking, and staying up late. Now, I no longer stay up late, and my mental clarity is much better than it used to be, even though my work remains just as demanding. Yet, when I am awake, the thought occasionally arises that it is time to let go. This is a feeling I never had previously. My spirit is clear now, and I can tell myself that I really should be directing this energy and focus toward the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. However, when I am awake, there is a faint, almost imperceptible calling—a voice so thin it is nearly impossible to hear. It is as if my physical body is obstructing these spiritual messages. How can I break through these barriers and allow for a smooth communication between my spirit and my body? This seems like a direction worth striving for.

A Shift in Purpose

If I could clear this blockage and bring the clarity of what I see and hear during the morning sessions into my waking life, it would be the key to a total transformation of my life. I would no longer live for myself, but for the sake of all immeasurable and boundless sentient beings. This might sound like a lofty statement, but these are the heartfelt words of Ma Yun at this very moment. Seeing how my Dharma brother dedicates his life to all beings, I, as his junior, should follow his example.

Since I have found my past and know that I have descended from the Western Pure Land, I must awaken. I cannot remain attached to this world—this great dyeing vat that has harmed so many innocent creatures. My internet logistics and currency platforms have built an empire and changed the way people shop. Since I have such capabilities, I should use them to propagate the Buddha’s teachings, promote the Pure Land, and counsel the world to recognise the laws of and cause and effect, to chant the name of Namo Amituofo, and to make the vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land. Since modern people can hardly live without computers, why not fight fire with fire? We should use the internet to spread the Dharma. This requires professional IT talent and human resources to manage the flow of information and responses. It requires not only financial support but also dedicated manpower.

A Vow to Serve

Since money is needed everywhere in this human world, and I know how to earn it—yet I cannot take it with me when I go—it is better to use it for things that truly help people. Furthermore, the construction of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre requires not only a large amount of capital but also the participation of professional temple architects. The more I think about this, the more energised I feel! This is a completely different kind of life. I do not know how many days I have left, or if there is still time for me to accomplish these things. I cannot help but kneel, press my palms together, and pray to the Great Compassionate Namo Amituofo. I am willing to offer the rest of my time and my life to ensure I can do this and contribute my strength to the temple.

Namo Amituofo, I pray for your blessing. No matter what method is required, I am willing to overcome any obstacle. Please arrange for me to contact my Dharma brother so that, on this sacred ground of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the temple may soon manifest before the people of this world. The sooner it is completed, the sooner we can save and lead sentient beings with karmic affinity to the Pure Land. Saving people is like fighting a fire—every second counts.

I pray for the compassionate blessing of Namo Amituofo! Namo Amituofo."
