The Demon in the Machine

This is a record of an interview with Mo Bula, a demon who has existed for 5.6 billion years, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This account reflects upon his existence as a universal demon. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on July 1, 2024.

Mo Bula speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Mo Bula. Many people are unaware of our existence as demon crowds. Many others simply refuse to believe we exist, dismissing it all as superstition or nonsense. Let me tell you, we demons could not care less whether humans believe in us or not. As long as we can control their human body, that is all that matters to us.

Before I found humanity, I spent my time controlling the inhabitants of other planets. Some of those beings possessed a human body, though they existed in different states and appearances on their respective worlds. Among the countless planets I have traversed, this Earth is the one that has left the deepest impression on me. In my five point six billion years of existence as a demon, this planet has been the most entertaining place for me to play."

The Playground of Earth

"The defining characteristic of Earth's humans is that they possess a physical body, a heart that is constantly in motion, and a complex character. This heart is the core of the entire body. Many people lose their true selves because of this heart, and many others suffer deeply because of its feelings—or rather, I should say that every single person is like this.

The human heart is always moving. Once the heart stirs, all sorts of feelings arise. These feelings might be loneliness, jealousy, or romantic attachment. Every different movement of the heart drives the entire body to react in kind.

The movement of the human heart does not just affect the individual's own body; it also ripples outward, affecting the surrounding space and magnetic field. It causes the environment to shift and change in accordance with the heart's fluctuations. Humans have a peculiar trait known as 'birds of a feather flock together.' Similar people are always drawn to one another—perhaps due to similar character, shared concepts, or comparable backgrounds. Regardless of the reason, this power of similarity creates a force that binds these people together in a group."

The Mechanics of Human Control

"We demons are constantly probing these human traits—or, if you will, these characteristics—precisely so that we can control humanity with greater precision. We want humans to be completely under our dominion, leaving them with no strength to resist.

Since the formation of Earth, many spirits from different planets and dimensions have visited this world. Some were merely curious, some were looking for a new place to reside, and others came to temper their character and elevate their spirits. In short, from the moment Earth was formed until now, a vast number of spirits have been coming and going. And among these spirits, our demon crowds are always present.

Every demon in our Demon Realm, from the smallest to the greatest, finds Earth incredibly fascinating. As I mentioned, some spirits come here to practise and cultivate their spirits, and why should we demons not do the same? To us, Earth is the perfect place to enhance our demonic power. Any demon who arrives here and manages to seize control of a human body has a golden opportunity to expand their influence. It is truly an inconceivable phenomenon. The most incredible part is that the benefits we gain from controlling humans far outweigh the benefits of controlling the inhabitants of any other planet. We do not know the exact reason for this, but it is a fact, which is why we demons are so fond of coming to Earth."

The Internet: A Demon’s Masterpiece

"In this current generation, it is easier than ever for us to display our prowess. Whether it is in any industry or any space, our demon crowds are present. You could say that we demons are now omnipresent; we have effectively besieged the entire space of Earth, and not a single person can escape us.

Among these many dimensions, the one I currently inhabit is the internet. Before the internet existed, I was in other dimensions controlling humans using different methods. Those methods were effective, but they pale in comparison to the power of using the internet to control humanity.

The influence of the internet on humans is incredibly powerful. It has become almost inseparable from their daily lives. Humans rely on the internet and technology—this has been going on for a long time, and the dependency is only growing. Humans have reached a tragic state where they feel they cannot survive without technology and the internet.

We often find humans to be quite unintelligent. They have invented so much technology and such convenient networks to improve their lives and work efficiency, and in some respects, it has indeed been helpful. However, these humans often overlook the harm that comes in its wake."

The Vulnerability of the Modern Soul

"The entire internet space is now filled with demon crowds. If the internet were used for Good and for righteous purposes, our interference would be limited. However, when it is used for improper activities, personal indulgence, or the satisfaction of selfish desires—as long as there is an intention of 'self' and 'ego' involved—we demons can absolutely provide interference to those who use the network.

Once a human is targeted by us, they become a very dangerous group within the internet space. We will exhaust every suitable bait to lure them in. Once they see the bait, they cannot help but dive deeper into the digital realm, inevitably becoming addicted and sinking into it.

Humans have almost no resistance to demonic power. Once they encounter us, they are quickly influenced, controlled by our power, and eventually lose their true selves. Among the masses, some humans are particularly easy targets for us. We do not only attack these people, but they are relatively easier to control than others, so we choose to target them first.

Finding these people is not difficult at all, and their numbers are growing. In this new generation, it is much easier to find people with these personality traits than in the past. These are people who hold no hope for life; people with negative thoughts; people who are clever but love to dwell on dead ends; hysterical people; people with intense desires; people with extreme ideologies; people with violent tendencies; people who are dissatisfied with reality; or people who love to daydream and live in a virtual world. These are the candidates we are looking for.

Look at these people: as soon as their character meets a video game or anything on the internet that stirs their heart, it immediately captures their attention, and they quickly become addicted."

Defeated by the Light

"Since we began our control within the internet, we have successfully brought a vast number of humans into our demon lair. Once they enter our lair, their spirits are completely controlled and bound. Without external help or special Causal Conditions, it is almost impossible for them to leave. These humans whose souls we control can no longer be the master of their own bodies. They spend all their time immersed in the internet, and no matter how much those around them try to counsel them, they have no desire to leave that digital space.

Among those we control, students are a major group. Regardless of their age, students are our targets. This group is very easy to control. Many of them, even before entering society, already suffer from feelings of helplessness, loneliness, insecurity, and inner confusion, which leads them to choose the internet as a place to lose themselves in delusion.

Furthermore, compared to adults, the influence of peers on students is immense. Whatever is popular among their classmates or whatever is trending online, they will share and exchange. They compare themselves and learn from one another, making it very easy for them to get hooked on a game and enter that space. We are rapidly capturing the spirits of these children, batch after batch, with incredible speed.

In the internet world, many spaces are like battlefields—very stimulating. Recently, however, Buddha-light has been continuously entering the internet world, purifying many of these spaces. We were furious when we saw this, and later we learned it was the work of Practitioner Su. Practitioner Su entered the internet world and performed massive Chao Du on us demons, taking away many Demon Kings and their 'demon children and grandchildren,' including myself, who was brought here by Practitioner Su today.

We demons are all very unwilling to accept this. We finally had such a great opportunity, only to have it ruined by Practitioner Su. There are still immeasurable and boundless demons in the internet world, and everyone is still guarding their territory, not wanting to be easily destroyed. But seeing the speed at which Practitioner Su works, it is truly difficult to avoid being cleared out, because the skill of Practitioner Su's Chao Du is something even we old demons find difficult to resist.
