The Demon King's Journey: From Possession to Deliverance

This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Demon King Mo He Xi, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This account reflects upon his experiences leading up to his deliverance in May 2022. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on May 3, 2022.

Demon King Mo He Xi (Shi Qingquan) speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I have only just been brought here, to this place the temple calls the 'Western Dharma-Nature Land'. I am currently exploring it, trying to fathom what kind of power exists within the human path on Earth that could possibly give rise to a place like the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The universe is filled with various forms of Goodness and evil, each occupying its own space for survival. However, in the ongoing conflict between Good and evil, beyond the scenarios where both sides suffer defeat, or one side triumphs over the other, I have always wondered: is there another possibility? Could there be a situation where, after a confrontation, even if the demon is defeated and the Buddha is victorious, the demon is actually also a winner? My heart was filled with such expectations. As for me, because I invaded the foot of Practitioner Su, I was called out by name, and after the sounding of the great qing, I was fixed upon a lotus seat in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This has been an intriguing process, and the final outcome remains to be seen."

The Nature of Good and Evil

"Within the Milky Way, I am a well-known demon king—one who is broad-minded and unconstrained by trifles. I do not like to dwell on matters or get caught up in the details. I believe that even if there is a true, positive force of Truth maintaining and protecting the kind beings of the Milky Way, wherever there is positive energy, there must simultaneously be negative energy—which is to say, the existence of us, the demon crowds. Unless, of course, there is a place like the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss created by the Western teaching master, Namo Amituofo. That world is protected by the Buddha's compassion; it is a world of supreme Goodness, and only there can one remain unharmed by the negative magnetic fields of the universe."

Reflections on Earthly Dharma Assemblies

"Although I am a demon king of the Milky Way, I am not unfamiliar with Namo Amituofo, whose body encompasses the entire Dharma Realm. Namo Amituofo holds a very significant and important place in the hearts of Earth's people. I have travelled from the Milky Way to Earth to attend large-scale Chao Du Dharma assemblies. The scenes were grand, with many participants and countless spirits being delivered—many of whom were karmic creditors emerging from the attendees themselves. The stated goal of these Dharma assemblies is to deliver the deceased to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Yet, throughout the entire event, while I saw many celestial beings in attendance and witnessed some spirits ascending to the celestial realms, I never once saw the presence of Namo Amituofo, let alone any beings actually achieving rebirth in the Western Pure Land. After the Dharma assembly concluded, one could see that many of the karmic creditors simply returned to their original hosts; they had not been truly saved. This is my impression of the Dharma assemblies on Earth."

The Strategy of Possession

"Today, I came to find Practitioner Su not only because I heard that the Buddha-light currently present in the Milky Way is brought forth by him, but also because I heard that Practitioner Su has saved many demon crowds and wandering spirits from the Milky Way. It is said that those saved by Practitioner Su can reach the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, the celestial realms, or the human path. We found this to be truly extraordinary, which is why we came to visit Practitioner Su. We also wanted to understand how the spirit of Practitioner Su, who possesses a physical body, could break through the limitations of that body to enter the Milky Way. The fastest way to understand this was to enter Practitioner Su's body ourselves."

The Stillness Within the Dharma Body

"We know that the light emitted by a spirit capable of leaving the body is the most direct indicator of that person's level of practice, as this light is not obstructed or limited by the physical form. Yet, looking at Practitioner Su's body, the light emitted was just like that of a spirit; from this, it is clear that Practitioner Su's spirit and body are in perfect harmony. The body is capable of directly expressing the intentions of the spirit. We could also see that the beings gathered within the body were mostly concentrated in the feet and the groin, so we knew these were the more vulnerable parts of Practitioner Su's body. We decided that entering through these areas would be easier. We also knew that Practitioner Su had a protective shield—this was information we had gathered before coming to the temple. There is a saying among Earth's people: 'Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will be victorious in every battle.' Thus, we donned cloaks capable of passing through the protective shield. A dark, dense mass of demon crowds touched the skin, but many were repelled; only a small portion managed to get inside, while the majority could not enter."

"Not long after we entered the body, we saw the groin area of Practitioner Su, which bore the marks of past injuries from being occupied by many karmic creditors and spirits. We wanted to explore that area, but it was protected by an invisible shield. We could not linger, so we searched between the groin and the feet to see if we could find any parts of the body that differed from the ordinary. What we found, however, was a profound stillness everywhere. It emitted a pure, bright magnetic field; even the flowing blood moved in complete silence. This was a truly remarkable thing, so even we moved with great care, lest we disturb that tranquility. This is the difference between a body that has been purified through practice and an ordinary human body. The bodies of ordinary humans are constantly in a state of noise, filled with various sounds and the activities of many beings; it is no wonder that such bodies feel so heavy."

A New Beginning: The Dharma Name Shi Qingquan

"After staying in Practitioner Su's body for two days, today, I heard Practitioner Su call out my name during the invitation of spirits. With no ability to resist, we were absorbed into the great qing and brought to this place, the 'Western Dharma-Nature Land'. Time has flowed by so quietly here. In less than half a day, after listening to Practitioner Su expound upon a sutra, my heart feels completely different. This place seems like an extension of Practitioner Su's own body. We calmly accept this arrangement and continue to explore this wondrous journey."

"The Buddha has bestowed upon the demon Mo He Xi the Dharma name 'Shi Qingquan'."
