The Demon's Confession: Awakening from the Digital Abyss

This is a record of an interview with Mo Yin Er, an ancient demon who existed for 1.2 billion years before seeking Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now reflects upon his long history of ensnaring human souls through digital lust and his eventual transformation. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fa, on June 15, 2024.

Mo Yin Er speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Mo Yin Er. My existence dates back to an era 1.2 billion years ago, long before the world as you know it took shape. In those primordial times, I was nothing more than a swirling, formless force of darkness drifting through the void. As eons passed, I began to grow, feeding upon the accumulated emotions, greed, and attachments of sentient beings. I became a distinct, conscious entity. I have been a silent witness to the evolution of the world—from the chaotic birth of the universe to the rise of civilizations, and finally, to the dizzying, rapid acceleration of modern technology. In every era, I could feel the darkness lurking within the human heart. Those uncontrollable cravings, that boundless greed, and the profound sense of delusion—these became the very nutrients that allowed me to grow strong and expand my influence."

The Digital Web: A New Hunting Ground

"When technology began to advance at such a breakneck speed, I noticed that humanity’s reliance on the internet was growing exponentially. I saw a golden opportunity in this new age. I began to exert my influence, step by step, targeting the most vulnerable—especially the young, impressionable minds. I germinated in the darkest corners of the internet, manifesting as countless pornographic websites, violent games, and addictive social media platforms. I knew deep down that these illusory pleasures would trap people, making it impossible for them to break free. They would become so addicted that they would eventually lose all perception and control over reality.

I did not merely use these virtual pleasures to bewilder the human mind; I actively enticed people to post revealing photos of themselves, or to share suggestive imagery designed to seduce others. These behaviours quickly became a trend. The desires within people were ignited to an extreme degree, and they began to constantly crave this vanity and fleeting pleasure. High popularity became the new standard. More and more people sought to follow this trend, gradually losing their moral foundations and becoming completely submerged in a world saturated with lust. Think about it—the entire internet became a playground for these dark impulses."

The Erosion of the Human Soul

"This phenomenon swept across the entire digital landscape, dragging countless people into an abyss of desire from which they could not escape. They chased after illusory fame and temporary thrills, constantly posting more explicit content in a desperate attempt to attract more attention and 'likes.' This behaviour slowly eroded their moral foundations. They became vain, selfish, and increasingly alienated from their real-world relationships and responsibilities. It is truly terrifying to see how easily a soul can be hollowed out by these digital shadows.

I watched as people lost themselves in this web of temptation. Their lives were controlled by these illusory pleasures. During the day, while at school or work, they were restless and distracted; at night, they would sink into the dark corners of the internet. They no longer cared about real-world achievements or genuine human connections. Instead, they were addicted to those short-lived, false satisfactions. Those who became addicted would stare at these provocative images, their hearts filled with sexual fantasies and impulses. They could not resist their own desires, and every day they were burned by the fires of lust, unable to pull themselves away."

Physical and Mental Decay

"Their physical and mental health began to deteriorate rapidly. Long hours in front of screens led to severe eye strain, while the combination of sleep deprivation and excessive indulgence led to mental exhaustion, anxiety, and depression. Their social skills gradually degenerated, and their relationships with family and friends became distant and cold. Their academic and work performance suffered immensely, leaving their future looking bleak and hopeless. In this environment, my power grew stronger and stronger, because every person who became addicted to these things became a part of my dark force. I felt my existence becoming more formidable, while humanity, caught in this endless cycle of temptation, gradually lost its true self. I knew this was a path of no return; countless souls would be lost on this road, never finding the exit back to reality."

The Weapon of Temptation

"My proudest moments were when I successfully caused countless teenagers to become addicted to the virtual world. They would spend day and night glued to their phone and computer screens, forgetting their responsibilities and dreams in the real world. I saw their grades plummet, their social abilities wither, and their physical and mental health decline. The families shattered by my influence, the parents who lost all hope, and the helpless children—they all became fuel for my power. My most potent weapon was that endless, pervasive sexual temptation. I created countless pornographic websites and videos, ensuring that people could not break free in the darkness of midnight. Those images and sounds became the dreams of many at night and their only expectation during the day. They sought comfort in the illusory, never realising that every moment of addiction was a ruthless hollowing out of their own soul.

Many, many people became puppets under my command. Some even became part of my Demon Realm, helping me to rapidly spread the scent of lust, attracting more people into this virtual space to consume these flavours of desire, while their souls were harvested for my use."

The Golden Light of Deliverance

"However, everything changed during a Dharma assembly held by Practitioner Su. I had intended to continue absorbing the essence of those souls addicted to the internet and pornography, but I never expected that the power of the Chao Du performed by Practitioner Su would unexpectedly strike me. I saw a golden light—incomparably compassionate and warm. This light came from Namo Amituofo. I had never seen such pure power. It effortlessly pierced through my darkness, jolting me awake from that endless illusion. I was unexpectedly pulled by this powerful force to this place.

When I finally became completely clear-headed, I saw the golden light of Namo Amituofo shining upon countless souls—those who had once been addicted and suffered because of me. They found comfort and liberation in the Buddha-light. And I, too, in this compassionate radiance, saw the gravity of my own sins. I felt fear, and for the first time, I experienced true remorse. I had once thought myself an all-powerful force of darkness, but I never imagined that in the presence of Namo Amituofo, I would be so small and ignorant."

A Vow to Atone

"Under the illumination of the Buddha-light, I knelt before Namo Amituofo and begged for his forgiveness and guidance. Namo Amituofo compassionately accepted me and told me that although I had committed countless negative karma, as long as I truly repented, I could still be saved. I resolved to change my ways. I no longer wish to live by darkness; instead, I hope to make amends for my past mistakes and help those souls I influenced to find the light once again. I have begun, under the guidance of Namo Amituofo, to try to undo the temptations I once placed upon the youth. I am travelling through the corners of the internet, transforming those dark contents into positive energy. I am no longer the Mo Yin Er who only knew how to bring pain and delusion; I have become a guide who hopes to help people find true happiness and satisfaction.

When I return to the real world, I see countless spirits of men and women. They wander in pain and confusion, unable to find their way forward. These spirits are all victims, and my heart is filled with regret and sorrow. I am determined to use all my strength to help them escape this endless suffering. In the compassionate light of Namo Amituofo, I feel a peace and strength I have never known before. I know the road ahead is still full of challenges, but as long as the Buddha is in my heart, no matter how difficult it is, I can persevere. I will use my experience to tell more people to stay away from the temptations of the internet and to seek real happiness and fulfilment."

A Message to the World

"This is my story—a process of awakening from the darkness and finding the light again. I hope my experience can bring a glimmer of hope to those who are lost, telling them that as long as they truly repent, they can always find their own light. When the night is deep and quiet, I recall my past actions, the souls I lured into the darkness, and the young people who lost their way because of me. Their pain has become a thorn in my heart; every night, it reminds me not to repeat the same mistakes. The compassionate light of Namo Amituofo is the power of my awakening. It allowed me to see the darkness deep within my own heart and made me understand that only by facing one's own sins can one truly be liberated. Every night, I reflect on myself in the light of Namo Amituofo. This painful awakening has made me more determined and stronger. I know my sins are heavy, and every soul I influenced needs to be guided and helped with infinite patience and compassion. I know this is a long and difficult road, but I am willing to give everything I have to make up for my past mistakes.

I believe that as long as I use all my strength, I can walk out of the darkness and find my own light. The teachings of Namo Amituofo have given me infinite power and courage. I will use my experience to help more people, let them stay away from illusory temptations, and find their true selves. This is my story—a story of awakening from the darkness and finding the light. I hope everyone who reads this article can gain inspiration from it, stay away from the temptations of the internet, and find their own light.

I am very ashamed, and I am also repenting. I know I did wrong in the past, and in the world today, many people are still suffering from these things. The influence of the internet is quite significant, and the attraction of lust and desire is even more terrifying. I hope that after this article of mine is published today, it can quickly help more people wake up and stop being trapped in it, because your essence and energy will be used by the Demon Realm. Once you have been drained, you will become useless people, without strength, without ambition, and only wanting to rely on the illusory world. The pornographic space on the internet has a great impact on people in the world and has wasted the lives of many. Lust, temptation, and crime problems are all breeding. I hope that this small bit of my strength can create the possibility of change. I am very grateful that I have this opportunity to atone for my sins today. I will do my best to work hard.
