In the realm of spiritual cultivation, understanding the relationship between the underlying truth and our daily actions is paramount. Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers profound guidance on this essential balance.
Principle refers to the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way that govern all existence. Phenomenon, on the other hand, refers to the manifest events, appearances, and circumstances we encounter in our daily lives.
When one can achieve a state where Principle and Phenomenon are in perfect harmony, without obstruction, this is the true manifestation of Wisdom. If one understands the phenomenon but fails to grasp the underlying Principle, one's actions will often be flawed, incomplete, or masked by ignorance. Conversely, if one understands the Principle but fails to apply it correctly in the phenomenal world, one's practice remains insufficient and incomplete.
True perfection is found when one can clearly distinguish and harmonise both Principle and Phenomenon, regardless of time or place. This clarity earns the respect and trust of all beings. However, if one is confused about the relationship between the two, one will feel lost and without a foundation. Often, personal subjectivity and individual personality traits interfere with the laws of and cause and effect, leading to a lack of clarity. This makes it difficult for others to follow, believe in, or obey one's guidance.
By maintaining an objective and fair stance, and by deeply understanding the laws of karma and cause and effect, one can resolve the conflict and remove unnecessary obstacles. This clarity is essential for the diligent practice of one's spiritual achievements. May we all strive to align our lives with the Truth, ensuring that our actions reflect the profound wisdom of the Buddha.
