During the third session of the , we reflect upon the profound concept of severance. To sever and let go of all emotional attachments and external entanglements may, at first glance, appear to be an act of heartlessness. However, this is a misunderstanding of the path. In truth, it is precisely within this state of detachment that great wisdom is born. When we cease to be driven by the chaotic currents of our emotions, we create the space for our original nature to shine through.
Severance can be understood as a form of rebirth. It is not merely a change in our external circumstances or our outward behaviour; it is, first and foremost, a deep and rigorous work of the heart. By committing to this process, we move beyond the superficial and begin to transform our very essence.
The fluctuations of the mind are the greatest obstacles to our practice and to reaching the state of an awakened being. When we truly practise severance within our hearts, we are engaged in the genuine cleansing of our internal dust and grime. This is what it truly means to "see through" and "let go" of the illusions that bind us to the cycle of rebirth.
We must remember that severance is not an end in itself; it is merely a process of our practice. The ultimate purpose of this path is to save. After we have achieved this internal severance, we must remain active and persistent in our diligent practice. We do this to achieve the truth and to rediscover our true self.
Only by doing so can we truly save ourselves and, in turn, save all beings, helping them to leave suffering behind and find the light. In this vast universe, we are but one among countless beings. Our family members from this life and our from lifetimes past are also among these beings.
We must recognise that every single being, without exception, is someone we are meant to save and help. To view all beings with this equality and love is the manifestation of true, great compassion and wisdom. This is the heart of the path, where the work of saving infinite beings never ceases.
