The Three Pillars of Spiritual Strength

Courage, fierce diligence, and bravery are not merely abstract concepts; they are the vital forces required for your spiritual journey. When you encounter a bottleneck in your Buddhist practice and find yourself yearning to break through, you will discover that you need the assistance of these powerful qualities. They serve as the foundation for your progress, providing the necessary strength to navigate the complexities of the path.

Facing the Obstacles of

As you engage in your daily practice, you will inevitably face numerous trials. When the weight of the "self," personal ego, and selfishness, or the obstacles of manifest before you, you must not retreat. Instead, you must face these challenges with unwavering bravery. It is through the combination of courage and Wisdom (Prajna) that you can effectively dismantle these layers of obstruction. Without this resolve, the path forward remains obscured by the shadows of our own making.

Courage as a Constant Companion

Especially when you encounter adversity, you must be able to summon your courage to bolster your confidence. This is how you transform a moment of difficulty into a breakthrough. Courage is a profound force; it is the key that can shatter the deadlocks of your current situation. Indeed, courage is the most faithful companion in your practice. Without it, it is nearly impossible to move forward, as the path of the Buddha requires a heart that is willing to confront the unknown with steadfast determination.

Transcending Secular Limits

When you are engaged in diligent practice, you may find that your natural inertia or laziness begins to surface. At such times, you must apply a sense of fierce diligence to give yourself an extra push; only then can you continue to advance. The requirements of deep practice—regarding your time, your physical energy, and your need for sleep—are often quite different from the rhythms of secular life. If you are able to overcome these physical limitations and let go of your past patterns of thinking and living, you will find a new freedom. By practising this kind of autonomous, fierce diligence, you will be able to take a giant leap forward on your journey toward the of Ultimate Bliss.

This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
