In the journey of spiritual practice, one must possess an unwavering determination. This resolve acts as a profound and positive energy, guiding the practitioner through the challenges of the world toward the realisation of their true nature as an awakened being.
When you make a vow with the utmost sincerity, your determination becomes as solid and unyielding as a great rock. It will not be weakened, shaken, or disturbed by the external environment or the myriad forms of interference. With such steadfast determination, your practice is certain to achieve spiritual success. How many can truly maintain this level of focus? It is the essential foundation upon which all progress is built.
To attain the state of an awakened being, you must rely on this firm determination as your anchor. You must be fiercely diligent, never ceasing until your goal is reached. When your hearts and actions are aligned in this way, the prospect of becomes a reality. Without this driving force, the path remains distant and obscured by the clouds of confusion.
You must have the determination to overcome the states of being drowsy or distracted during your practice. You must face these obstacles directly and break through them, actively working to change the 'self,' personal ego, and selfishness. If you succeed in this, you will move forward; if you do not, you will remain stagnant, or worse, slide backward. The choice is yours to make in every moment.
You must have the determination to complete your morning service every single day with a grounded and sincere heart. If you find that you have not completed your daily lessons, you must reflect upon the reasons why. You must supervise yourself, hold yourself accountable, and take the initiative to make up for what was missed. Determination is the key to success; without it, even the simplest tasks become difficult to accomplish. It is this combination of firm resolve and practical action that allows one to cultivate good and achieve success in all endeavours. When you encounter setbacks or difficulties, let your determination be the power that helps you break through. You must cherish this resolve, protect it, and manifest it through actual, consistent action. Only then will your practice truly bear fruit and lead you toward the ultimate goal of leaving suffering behind to find happiness.
