If you plant a good cause, you will reap a good result, which brings happiness. Conversely, if you plant a negative cause, you will reap a negative result, which brings suffering. Whether you experience happiness or suffering, both are still bound within the cycle of reincarnation. To truly transcend this cycle, one must look beyond the ordinary fruits of and seek a higher path.
If you can chant the name of Namo Amituofo 24/7, without allowing any other thoughts to arise, you will find the most effective method for purification. When you chant Namo Amituofo, although you are still using your mind to recite, it is a pure thought. As the saying goes, when pure thoughts follow one another in succession, the heart will naturally open.
The Buddha-name is the purest of the pure and the best of the good. It is the ultimate expression of purity and goodness. Because you receive the blessing and support of Namo Amituofo’s power, this practice possesses the strength to purify your body, heart, and spirit, and it holds the unique power to transform your karma.
When you keep the Buddha-name flowing continuously in your heart—chanting then becomes a continuous, flowing stream that never stops—you are engaging in the most wonderful method to give rise to all and achieve the fruit of . You should understand this clearly and make good use of it, for it is the shortcut to awakening and the attainment of Buddhahood through the path.
By focusing your entire heart on the name, you achieve a state of single-minded concentration. This practice is the simultaneous cultivation of the Three Learnings of , Samadhi, and Wisdom. It is the fundamental requirement to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is a sacred place dedicated to this Pure Land practice. All disciples should be diligent and earnest in chanting the Buddha-name. The depth of your meditative concentration is a direct reflection of the depth of your chanting practice. There is no limit to how deep your practice can go, and you should continue to refine it until the very end of your life.
According to the Ten Recitations Vow within Namo Amituofo’s Forty-eight Great Vows, if you can sincerely call upon the name of Namo Amituofo at the end of your life with a heart that is not confused, even if it is only for one to ten recitations, you will see Namo Amituofo manifest before you. He will lead you to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, thereby fulfilling your great vow to reach the Pure Land and attain liberation.
