We endure the suffering of and the suffering of the mind, trapped within the relentless cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death. The myriad sufferings of beings are difficult to fathom, and we find ourselves unable to master our own destinies. We are often tossed about by the waves of our own , unable to find a moment of true peace. If you truly understand the nature of this suffering, you will naturally develop a sense of weariness toward this world. You will seek to realise your true self, for that is the only way to leave suffering behind. Furthermore, you will resolve to save countless suffering beings, fulfilling the vow to save all beings.
If the Buddha says that an action should not be taken, one must cease immediately. When Practitioner Su, our virtuous guide, points out that something must be changed, you must change it. You must immediately repent, acknowledge your mistakes, and correct your behaviour. True change is not merely a matter of speaking empty words. If your actions remain unchanged, you have not truly understood the teaching. True change and true practice are the foundations for fulfilling the vow to end all endless afflictions.
To see through and let go is the essence of mental cultivation. If you truly understand, you will no longer dwell on the past, nor will you be haunted by memories of what has been. Instead, you will focus your energy on diligent practice, striving for achievement in the , fulfilling the vow to learn all boundless Dharma gates. When you truly understand and the magnificence of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, and recognise the rarity of this Dharma affinity, you will seek to rediscover your true self.
By rediscovering your true self, you will be able to attain rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss with ease, and in turn, help others to do the same. This is the fulfilment of the supreme vow to attain the Buddha's path. By following this path, you are not only saving yourself but also working to save countless suffering beings. This is the true meaning of understanding, and it is the path that leads us all home to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This message was recorded by the Buddhist disciple Venerable HaiZe.
