Group prostrations have become a vital pillar of our weekly practice at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Every Thursday evening, from six to nine, we gather in a shared commitment to this essential discipline. Throughout the vastness of the Dharma Realm, those who are aware of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre recognise this as a significant time. It serves as a crucial period of purification, preparing us for the three-day Thrice Yearning Ceremony that follows each week.

The Fourfold Path of Purification

When you engage in these prostrations, you must observe silence. This is not merely a physical act; it is a profound method of purification that touches every aspect of your being. By focusing your full attention on the practice, you can achieve the greatest results in dissolving your karmic burdens. To truly benefit, you should approach the practice with the following intentions:

• Purifying the body: Through the act of respectful and humble prostration before the Buddha, you cleanse your physical form of arrogance and restlessness.
• Purifying the ears: By ensuring that your ears hear nothing but the sacred Buddha-name, you shield your mind from the noise of the world.
• Purifying the heart: By keeping your heart focused solely on Namo Amituofo, you leave no room for other attachments or distractions.
• Purifying the mind: By ensuring your mind is occupied only by the Buddha-name and nothing else, you eliminate all wandering thoughts and delusions.

This standard of practice is not only for the students of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre; it is a path that all practitioners should follow to reach the highest level of spiritual clarity.

Maintaining the Stillness

After you have completed your prostrations, it is equally important to maintain this silence. Do not allow yourself to fall back into delusions or messy thoughts. Continue to purify your heart and keep chanting Namo Amituofo. By sustaining this state of mindfulness, you provide yourself with immense support on your journey toward awakening. The stillness you cultivate after the practice is just as significant as the movement during it.

A Vision of the Dharma Realm

If you were to look up at the sky during these hours, you might witness a remarkable scene where blue skies, white clouds, and dark, heavy clouds coexist. Upon the white clouds, many celestial beings stand in reverence, either chanting along with the Buddha-name or joining in the prostrations. Meanwhile, upon the dark clouds, one can see the demon crowds gathering in groups or dispersing. Yet, even among them, there is hope. Some of these beings, upon hearing the resonance of the Buddha-name, begin to prostrate just as the fourfold assembly does. These beings are revealing their good roots.

The Light of Deliverance

When a Demon King leads the way, his demon children and grandchildren follow suit, mimicking the practice. These beings have come from all directions, waiting for the opportunity for Chao Du, hoping to be saved and enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature. The entire scene is one of profound tranquility. The Buddha-light of Namo Amituofo shines brilliantly, illuminating all beings across the ten directions. This is the true state of our Thursday group prostrations at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
