When you offer a sincere smile to others, you are doing more than just a simple gesture of kindness. You are providing a remedy that can dissolve the deep-seated worries, sorrows, and afflictions that weigh heavily upon the hearts of those you encounter. The power of a smile is clearly visible upon the face, acting as a beacon of light in a world often clouded by shadows.
Everyone naturally gravitates toward a smiling face, while instinctively recoiling from a face filled with anger. This is a natural influence and a fundamental human behaviour. A smile is a universal language that communicates a state of being that is both profound and accessible. It conveys a sense of harmony, peace of mind, , naturalness, and kindness—a warm and welcoming spirit that puts others at ease.
A smile is light, effortless, and carries a sunny disposition that is both relaxed and powerful. It has the unique ability to dismantle the defensive walls people build around their hearts. Conversely, when one carries a face marked by agitation, stress, tension, or anger, it creates an atmosphere of darkness and suspicion. Such expressions cause others to become guarded, fearful, or even hostile. Therefore, I encourage you to maintain a smile at all times. Let your smile greet yourself, and let it greet every single person you encounter on your journey.
As a practitioner, you should always strive to maintain peace and stillness within your heart. Those who embody the virtues of , Joy, and Selfless Giving are those who wear a smile; they are the wise ones who have truly understood the nature of reality. It is said that appearance arises from the mind. Those who can greet others with a smiling face are those who keep joy in their hearts, free from fear, and filled only with contentment and gratitude.
This is the true countenance of one who chants Namo Amituofo. This temperament is in perfect sync with one's true self; it is the natural disposition of those who have realised their true nature.
When people arrive at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, they can witness the fourfold assembly chanting Namo Amituofo with smiling faces. This warm welcome greets all who come to the temple, allowing them to manifest their own in this sacred Buddha-land.
When the Buddha sees this joy, the Buddha-light shines upon all. By turning away from all evil and drawing close to Goodness, one’s good roots, blessings, and Causal Conditions become complete. With these foundations, one can make the vow to chant Namo Amituofo and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
