During the Taiwan New Year Assembly, held on the fifth day of the third session, offered these profound teachings to all sentient beings. Throughout our lives, we often find ourselves searching for a soulmate or a confidant—someone who can truly understand the depths of our hearts. We believe that if only someone else could comprehend our struggles, we would finally find peace. However, we fail to realise that the true understanding of the heart is not found in another person. It is found only when the heart itself becomes transparent and clear.
In truth, there is no inherent trouble within the heart. If we feel the need to rely on others for support, it is because our hearts have become filled with chaos and anxiety. We have become accustomed to a life of constant mental turbulence. This restlessness manifests in several ways:
Many practitioners struggle because they have not yet learned how to adjust their own inner state. They look outward for comfort, hoping that someone else will provide the understanding they lack.
Namo Amituofo teaches us that the solution lies within. If you wish to be understood, you must first learn to understand yourself. You must transform your own heart. When your heart is no longer chaotic, you will find that you are capable of stabilising yourself. You do not need to rely on others to validate your existence or soothe your pain. Instead, you must take responsibility for your own inner peace. Consider the following steps for self-regulation:
Adjusting your own heart is far more effective than searching for someone else to understand you. You must be autonomous and self-reliant in your practice. Do not allow yourself to fall into the trap of mental confusion. When you maintain a calm and peaceful heart, you will realise that you are your own best confidant. Your heart will become clear, bright, and self-illuminating. By doing this, you return to your true nature and find the lasting happiness that you have been seeking all along. Namo Amituofo.
