During the , we reflect upon the nature of our actions and the depth of our sincerity. To be truly thorough in all that we do is a profound expression of our inner state.
If you possess the quality of thoroughness, and it arises from your own spontaneous initiative, it is a sign of a highly refined spirit. When you can perceive the needs and desires of others and prepare for them before they are even expressed, you are demonstrating a sharp, awakened awareness. This level of sensitivity is not accidental; it is a clear indication that in your past lives, you have already dedicated yourself to diligent practice and have cultivated these skills deeply.
When this awareness is comprehensive and all-encompassing, it is very close to the state of an awakened being. If you continue to apply yourself with even greater diligent practice and break through your current limitations, you will surely see your true nature.
However, if your thoroughness only emerges after you have been instructed or told what to do, this is merely a common state of being. It is the standard level of practice for most people. Even if you are told exactly how to prepare thoroughly, if you still show signs of negligence, insufficiency, or arrogance in your speech and actions, it suggests that your faculties are impaired.
In such cases, your spirit may be scattered, making it difficult for you to maintain control over your own mind and actions. This is a sign that you must return to the basics of your practice to stabilise your spirit and regain your focus.
An awakened being possesses the unique ability to observe the words and actions of others and naturally understand their root nature. They do not judge; instead, they embrace the shortcomings of others and skillfully utilise their inherent sensitivity. By doing so, they help others develop their own potential until they, too, can see their true nature. This capacity to guide and nurture is what makes an awakened being so precious to the world.
Regardless of your current level of capacity, you must always remain humble and open to receiving teachings. If you are someone who already possesses a sharp and sensitive awareness, your humility will manifest as great tolerance, , patience, and meditative concentration. This will further expand the scope of your wisdom.
Therefore, no matter what kind of root nature you encounter, you must treat everyone with equality, compassion, and Wisdom. Those who can skillfully adjust, assign, and utilise these qualities in others are true spiritual friends and excellent guides. Students of Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, you should take these words to heart and use them to encourage yourselves on the path to .
