The Vision of a Transformed Soul
An Interview with the Spirit of Ma Yun
Recorded on February 26, 2018, at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This record documents an interview with the spirit of Ma Yun, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. In this session, he shares his profound observations of the spirit world and reflects upon his past karmic journey. This account was recorded by the chief writer, Venerable Shi Fa, on February 26, 2018.
Venerable Shi Fa: Ma Yun, Namo Amituofo.
Ma Yun speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Ma Yun. I find myself constantly asking, how did the world become like this? Everywhere I look—every blade of grass, every drop of dew—I see sentient beings. How can there be so many spirits in this world? To be honest, I am absolutely terrified. I have never been a courageous person. Since I was young, I have always been afraid to look around, constantly worried about what I might see. I lived my life in a state of avoidance, trying to ignore the unseen realities that were always there, lurking just beneath the surface of my perception.
The Unseen World Revealed
Under the guidance of the Venerable, I have seen more spirits in these few sessions than I ever encountered in my entire life. I cannot look away, even if I wanted to. They are all there, vivid and present before my eyes. The scenes of suffering are so wretched, so incredibly painful. Truly, being dead is far more painful than being alive. If I had not seen this with my own eyes, I would still be lost in the fog of my own ignorance, unable to wake up from the dream of my past life. The sheer number of spirits is overwhelming, existing even within the dust and sand of this world.
The Weight of Past Desires
Today, the Venerable showed us the plight of various insect forms, and I was genuinely shaken to my core. I lived a life of rampant desire. I did not know it was wrong at the time. I thought, 'It is all consensual, is it not?' I had money, and I bought happiness. Women loved money, and I gave it to them, and they did whatever I asked. No one ever told me that this was forbidden or that it carried such heavy consequences. I did not realise I was accumulating so much negative . I was blinded by my own success and the ease with which I could satisfy my cravings.
A Commitment to the Future
Now, I understand the vital importance of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Saving the world is truly the most important task one can undertake. I wish to fully fund the educational initiatives here. The current gap lies in the fact that my spirit and my physical body have not yet fully aligned, but I am sincere in my support. I see it clearly now—I see it with absolute clarity. Piles of money are just like waste paper; it is far better to use it for something truly significant, something that benefits all sentient beings. I will continue to strive to break through these barriers. Venerable, please rest assured. Namo Amituofo."
