The Wisdom of 'Do Not'

The Call to Cease and Reflect

During the third session of the Thrice Yearning Ceremony, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these essential teachings to guide our practice. He reminds us that the path to awakening is often obstructed by our own misconceptions and the influence of our karmic creditors. He instructs us:

• If you do not know, do not claim to know.
• If you cannot do it, do not force yourself to do it.
• If it is not right, do not force yourself to accept it as right.

When we act in these ways, we are not allowing our true self to be the master of our lives. Instead, we are allowing our karmic creditors to take control, leading us further away from the path of purity.

The Path of Sincerity and Transformation

Namo Amituofo, the Great Teacher of Goodness, has provided us with the perfect guidance. Practitioner Su is skilled in knowing, adjusting, and resolving these complex karmic issues. Therefore, we must approach these teachings with the utmost sincerity and respect. We must believe in them, accept them, and use them to change our lives.

Do not let these teachings pass by like a breeze, ignoring them as if they were merely a cool wind blowing past. Do not view these truths as water flowing by, feeling that they have nothing to do with you. If you allow the "self," personal ego, and selfishness to dictate your actions, where is your practice? How can you hope to make progress if you remain governed by your own subjective views?

Cherishing the Fragrant Light

Do not betray the Fragrant Light Dharma affinity, for it is a rare opportunity that is difficult to encounter. You must strive to return to your true self as early as possible. By doing so, you will be able to leave the ocean of karma and being reincarnated behind, and finally enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
