As you walk the path of the Buddha, you must cultivate the habit of constant self-reflection. You should ask yourself every day: 'Am I truly walking the righteous path?' If you find that your actions have deviated from the truth, or if your conduct has become strange or improper, your heart must be alert. You must possess the awareness to recognise these shifts immediately. Do not allow yourself to drift aimlessly or act on impulse. If you allow your karmic habits to take the lead, you will find yourself trapped in the cycle of , and the bitter fruits of your actions will be inevitable; it is only a matter of time before they manifest.
To be caught up in the cycle of sensory and emotional responses is the way of the secular world. Conversely, if you walk the righteous path, you are truly engaging in practice. By doing so, you begin to rediscover your original awareness, and your true self will naturally manifest. There are two distinct paths for the practitioner:
Walking the righteous path is the fundamental principle within the four pillars of Buddhist education: Right Faith, Right Understanding, Right Practice, and Right Realisation. If your path is skewed, the results you reap will be distorted. You will be unable to achieve the ultimate goal of your practice, and it would be a great pity to waste the efforts of this precious human life. This is why walking the righteous path is so vital. If you notice even the slightest deviation, you must adjust your course immediately. Facing your mistakes and resolving to change your ways is the most important task you have. I hope that you can listen to these words with an open heart and truly change your ways. Only then can you engage in correct practice and attain the fruit of Buddhahood.
