The Shadow of the Shaman

Across a vast and desolate land, countless suffering creatures look toward the horizon with longing. They wait for the arrival of the light of deliverance and the lotus, which represent their only hope for salvation. A legend persists in this place: if one can utter the secret words at the very moment the light appears, one will be guided along that radiance to a world free from pain, temperature extremes, sorrow, and hunger.

Yet, this land is currently dominated by a powerful shaman who reigns at the pinnacle of existence. He controls the life and death of every creature, and even the souls of the departed are held within his grasp. The entire realm is shrouded in his dark shadow. To secure the dwindling resources of food, water, and territory, various tribes are forced into constant, brutal conflict. These wars are not accidental; they are the result of the shaman’s silent, calculated planning. He orchestrates this violence because he requires the fierce energy of these tormented souls to increase the potency of his magic. The more souls that are sacrificed, the stronger his power becomes. He remains entirely indifferent to the life or death of these beings, for in his eyes, only his own pursuit of longevity and energy matters. As he continues to drain the life force of the realm, the number of living creatures dwindles, and their souls are consumed to fuel his dark ambitions.

The Arrival of the Golden Light

One day, the endless, dark sky suddenly parted. Golden clouds descended, accompanied by a brilliant golden light that swept across the land. As this light touched the earth, profound transformations began to occur:

  • The barren, parched soil began to show signs of green life.
  • Water, long hidden deep beneath the earth, began to spring forth to nourish the land.
  • Souls that had been drifting in space, whether controlled or fragmented, were suddenly awakened and restored.

These beings faintly heard a warm, resonant voice echoing around them: "Namo Amituofo... Namo Amituofo... Namo Amituofo..." Some souls, moved by an instinctual recognition, began to chant the Buddha-name along with the sound. As they did, they were lifted up and carried away by the golden light. Gradually, this secret of salvation began to spread throughout the realm.

The Mission of

During this visit, I, Venerable KaiLin, accompanied Practitioner Su to this land once more. We witnessed so many creatures living in the depths of suffering. Though I felt a sense of helplessness, I could only continue to chant the six-character Buddha-name, hoping to offer them some measure of comfort and aid. When Practitioner Su’s team worked to open up space, it was as if the entire world had been granted a new birth. While the number of beings helped in this single instance may seem small, the seeds of have been planted. They have begun to take root and sprout across this land. I trust that when we return, more spirits and souls will have learned to chant this Buddha-name, thereby gaining the opportunity to leave suffering behind and find true liberation.

A Call to Diligent Practice

This realm is but a tiny speck within the infinite space of the universe, yet it contains countless sentient beings waiting to be saved. It is fortunate that Practitioner Su’s is capable of opening up space to lead these beings to safety. However, there are countless other spaces waiting, and infinite sentient beings in need of salvation. This reality calls for the fourfold assembly to engage in even more diligent practice. The sooner one attains the Body, the sooner one can save these suffering beings who are still trapped in these dark spaces. I will continue to work and practise diligently alongside all of you in the void. I am also deeply grateful for the great compassion of Amitabha Buddha, for it is only through His grace that we have the opportunity to save these myriad spirits. Namo Amituofo.
