The Path of Transformation: Changing One's Ways
An Interview with Skanda Bodhisattva
Recorded on December 30, 2020
The Endless Cycle of Samsara
For countless lifetimes, beings have drifted through the turbulent currents of existence, experiencing the full spectrum of and sorrow, meeting and parting. Because of the inevitable end of life, the relentless pull of , and the beginning of each new life, we have forgotten everything that came before. The experiences of this lifetime are merely the script for the next, and the six realms of existence continue to play out the same repetitive drama day after day. We are all trapped in the same cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, enduring the same profound suffering.
In truth, no matter which realm a being inhabits, or even within the entire Realm, every single being possesses the same true self. We do not have to live in such pain. From ancient times until today, the Buddha’s teachings have been shared to remind every Buddhist practitioner of this reality. The hope is that all beings will strive to rediscover their true self—a state that is free from suffering. We do not need to spend our lives driven by greed, anger, delusion, arrogance, and doubt.
The Vital Keys to
For Buddhist practitioners, the path forward lies in transformation. We must learn to turn our cleverness into Wisdom and transform our greed, anger, delusion, arrogance, and doubt into a state of peace and purity. Only then can we rediscover our true self and live a life of stability and clarity. Whether one can successfully find this true self depends on two critical factors: a true spiritual friend, and one's own awareness. These two elements are connected by what the Buddha’s teachings call Dharma affinity. The depth of this affinity determines how much benefit one can receive from the teachings; it is a form of karmic fruit.
Mastering to Transform Karma
If we look at this from the perspective of the world, those who follow the path of fate and karma are governed by the principle that the environment follows the individual's karmic state. However, those who wish to transform their karma and change their destiny must reverse this: the individual's state must lead the environment. Practising the Buddha’s teachings is precisely about transforming our karma so that we no longer suffer.
If you encounter a true spiritual friend or a great teacher, you must overcome your own personal ego and selfishness. You must be able to let go of these habits to benefit from the teacher's guidance. If you are weak, learn to strengthen yourself. If you are prone to arrogance or anger, learn to be humble and modest. Stop the arrogance, cease the anger, and do not be led by the sensations of . You must conquer your own ego and refuse to be dragged along by your karmic habits. Only then can you benefit from the Buddha’s teachings and have the opportunity to change your destiny, eventually becoming free from the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. This is a necessary process for anyone who wishes to achieve spiritual success; one must constantly reflect and maintain awareness, or it will be difficult to escape the control of one's own habits.
The Compassionate Guidance of the Awakened
Those who have realised their true nature must certainly overcome the processes mentioned above to find their way back to the true self. Therefore, when such an awakened being becomes a true spiritual friend or guide for others, they see clearly whether the student is truly learning and whether they are making a sincere effort to overcome their personal ego and selfishness. They are able to provide skillful guidance, helping the student return their habits to the right path, until all such habits are gone and they reach the state of Awakening.
A Call to Vigilance and Purity
All the Venerables and virtuous ones within the temple must maintain their awareness at every moment, knowing that they must always learn and improve. In every corner of the temple, , the Teacher, Practitioner Su, and all the Dharma protectors are watching over everyone. They are clearly aware of every thought and intention that arises in your mind. It is hoped that everyone will be proactive and cautious in cherishing their own and Wisdom, so that they may rediscover their true self as soon as possible.
Continuing the Mission of Salvation
On another note, the mission regarding Practitioner Su’s Dharma Body and the request for rain continues, with the salvation team chanting Namo Amituofo twenty-four hours a day. Practitioner Su’s heart to save beings and help them find liberation never wavers, and Skanda and others will certainly remain by his side. Regarding the process of successfully bringing rain, we are still observing whether the Jade Emperor and the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas will cooperate as requested. As for the condition of Practitioner Su’s body, specifically the redness, itching, and damage to his skin, Skanda Bodhisattva and others are still in the process of inviting the beings involved to leave.
Namo Amituofo.
This message was recorded by the Buddha’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
