The Living Mist of the World

On this day, we reflect upon the grey, misty weather that often blankets our world. Whether one finds oneself in the mountains, by the sea, within the walls of a home, across the fields, by the edge of a lake, or even surrounding the temple in the early hours of the morning, this mist is a constant presence. The fourfold assembly now understands that all things in this world are manifestations of living spirits. From the smallest molecules of air and water to the vast, towering mountain ranges and dense forests, everything is alive. Even the grey fog and the drifting clouds are composed of countless sentient beings. If you were to look closely at even a small portion of this mist, you would find that it contains beings who possess eyes, ears, noses, and faces. They were once human, just as we are, yet they have now transformed into these ephemeral forms of mist and water. How truly impermanent and ever-changing this world is!

In truth, you and I may have once been part of this very mist, though we have long since forgotten. These experiences are stored deep within our . Because we all share this history, our contains the echoes of encounters we have shared across countless lifetimes. The Buddha’s teaching of the One-Body View is the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Those who can follow this perspective and act upon it with unwavering sincerity are truly those who have realised their true nature.

The Path of

This profound Truth is widely propagated within the Buddha’s teachings. The spirit of the path is derived from Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It reveals a life that is unified, equal, pure, and immeasurably dignified. All of these teachings are contained within The Infinite Life Sutra. Practitioner Su has taken this sutra to heart, practising it with complete faith and walking the path step by step, which has led to the achievement of Awakening. Practitioner Su has shared these insights during lectures, hoping that everyone will follow the guidance within the sutra so that they, too, may realise their true nature. This is the immense value of encountering a practitioner who has already attained Awakening; by receiving their experience and lineage, one may also attain the fruit of Awakening.

The Burden of Deliverance

There are immeasurable and boundless beings who, while alive, did not have the good fortune to receive the direct teachings of Practitioner Su. However, after their passing, they have received the benefit of Practitioner Su’s , which is a great blessing in itself. The suffering that Practitioner Su endures in this physical body includes the weight of the beings who have been resolved and delivered over the past twenty years. Some of these beings were initially unwilling to be resolved, while others entered the light without fully understanding their situation. They have entered the head, the back, and various parts of Practitioner Su’s body. Without the teachings of Namo Amituofo and the ongoing communication between the Venerables and these beings, how could such a complex situation ever be resolved? Even when not yet fully resolved, this reality exists in a very tangible way.

Throughout history, the ancestral masters and venerable masters who served as protectors—much like Skanda —have possessed the same compassionate heart and vows as Practitioner Su. They, too, have engaged in the work of resolving and delivering sentient beings and have faced similar physical burdens. Yet, few have understood the causes and consequences of this process as clearly as Practitioner Su. Despite the intense physical suffering, Practitioner Su continues this work, driven by and the power of the vow to chant Namo Amituofo. Whether these beings eventually reach the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss or enter the six realms of existence, the result is the same: they are liberated from their suffering state. If they are fortunate enough to hear the name of Namo Amituofo, they plant a of the Pure Land, ensuring that one day they will be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is the precious Dharma affinity of meeting a true practitioner and hearing the Buddha-name.

A Tribute to Unwavering Dedication

Even now, Practitioner Su continues to invite spirits for deliverance. The vastness of the space within Practitioner Su’s body is truly beyond imagination. If it were not for the teachings of Namo Amituofo during each invitation and the words and manifestations of the beings themselves, we would never know the true extent of this situation. The suffering Practitioner Su endures and the price paid by this physical body for the sake of delivering sentient beings is something that few practitioners could ever bear. It is a sacrifice that fills Skanda Bodhisattva and all of us with the deepest respect.

Namo Amituofo.
