Amitabha Buddha's discourse:

Extraordinary auspicious characteristics,

refer to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, where "lotus flowers made of all treasures fill the world,"

"from each flower emanate thirty-six hundred thousand billion rays of light, and from each ray of light appear thirty-six hundred thousand billion Buddhas, their bodies the colour of purple gold, with extraordinary auspicious characteristics."

This points out: the precious lotus flowers emit light, boundless light; within the light are Buddhas, countless Buddhas.

The Buddhas also emit light and travel to the ten directions to speak the subtle and wonderful Dharma.

Each manifestation Buddha is just like Amitabha, with a body of true purple gold and extraordinary auspicious characteristics,

bringing joy to those who behold them. To see a manifestation Buddha is to see the Buddha himself.

This situation is just like the present, at the place where Namo Amituofo truly dwells—Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia,

when Practitioner Su performs Chao Du, countless manifestations emerge from his body,

each one just like Practitioner Su.

His manifestations have radiant bodies and swift spiritual feet, able to reach the place requiring Chao Du in an instant,

and their appearances are also extraordinary and auspicious,

because each manifestation is compassionate, possessing the heart to save countless suffering beings,

just like Amitabha and Practitioner Su; appearance arises from the mind.

A practitioner's dignified auspicious characteristics are cultivated; as it is said in the Buddha’s gate, "it takes hundreds of kalpas to cultivate auspicious characteristics,"

within the practitioner's countenance and appearance,

one can see their level of practice and the state of their heart.

Those with a heart of goodness and compassion,

have an appearance that manifests compassionate dignity, inspiring those who see them to wish to follow and learn.

Those with a heart of Wisdom (Prajna) and meditative concentration,

have an appearance that manifests wise dignity, enabling those who see them to believe their words,

and receive the benefits of the Dharma.

Those who are steady and dignified have an appearance that manifests dignified majesty, inspiring respect in those who see them,

so that they dare not be negligent.

Extraordinary auspicious characteristics, like the Buddha's thirty-two marks of a great man,

in reality, the Buddha has boundless marks, and each mark has boundless auspiciousness!

Extraordinary auspicious characteristics can be attained through practice; by putting in the work from the heart, they will naturally manifest.
