Amitabha Buddha’s discourse:

The 'Gentle and Elegant Fragrance of Virtue' refers to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. When the breeze of virtue arises,

it stirs the jewelled nets and trees, producing subtle sounds.

These sounds expound on suffering, emptiness, impermanence, no-self, and the various perfections,

while simultaneously releasing and spreading ten thousand kinds of gentle and elegant fragrance of virtue.

The fragrance of virtue emitted within the breeze of virtue is mild and refined;

those who smell this fragrance find that their worldly dust and defiled habits naturally do not arise.

Worldly dust and defiled habits refer to afflictions and habits, which naturally do not arise.

The 'Gentle and Elegant Fragrance of Virtue' here is released and carried by the breeze of virtue.

This breeze of virtue originates from the self-nature of Amitabha and is also emitted from the light of the heart.

This fragrance allows the beings of the Western Land to smell it and find that their afflictions and habits do not arise,

and this breeze is peaceful and harmonious, causing those touched by it to feel their minds and spirits become stable, harmonious, and balanced.

If a person is accompanied by virtue in every aspect of their speech and conduct,

they will naturally emit the fragrance of virtue, and fragrance will be spread everywhere in the Western Land.

Fragrance possesses ten thousand virtues; thus, offering with fragrance has its meaning.

Amitabha also offers the fragrance of virtue to the beings of the Western Land, causing their afflictions and habits not to arise.

The various fragrances in the world

are manufactured by people or emitted from flowers.

Flowers are one of the beings of the six paths,

and humans are beings with karmic bodies, possessing karma,

subject to subjectivity, attachment, views, and other pollutions,

so the various fragrances produced are not purely pure or purely good.

However, the 'Gentle and Elegant Fragrance of Virtue' in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is manifested from the self-nature of Amitabha.

This fragrance of self-nature is released from a body that is pure, unstained, and extremely pure and good,

so its fragrance is naturally different from the fragrances of the world.

Its fragrance is released from the body, allowing all who smell it to receive its benefits.

In the world, if a practitioner possesses merit and blessings, and their heart, vows, and actions are the same as Amitabha’s,

their body will also naturally release this gentle and elegant fragrance of virtue,

causing those who smell it to find that their worldly dust and defiled habits naturally do not arise, and their hearts will be filled with joy.
