Dialogue with Namo Amituofo: All Things Chant the Buddha-name
Teachings from Namo Amituofo as Experienced by Practitioner Su
September 8, 2017

On the morning of September 8, 2017, during our morning walking meditation at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, Practitioner Su guided us in a profound realisation. We understood that our very cells, the flowers, the trees, and even the dust particles can join us in chanting the sacred name of Namo Amituofo to attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. We humbly asked Namo Amituofo for His compassionate guidance on this matter.
Namo Amituofo teaches us that all things in the universe are fundamentally sentient. Within every form, there resides a spirit. What we perceive as inanimate is merely a different manifestation of . Those who possess the complete Six Roots are truly blessed, yet even those who lack them still retain their consciousness.
The Sentience of All Things
Every thought you have ever had is stored within your consciousness. The six-syllable name, Namo Amituofo, is the key. If you have ever seen it, heard it, or chanted it, you have established a karmic connection. When the conditions are right, this connection will surface. Whether you chant aloud or hear the sound in your mind, the vibration enters your consciousness and is recorded in the storehouse of your mind.
Consider your cells, the plants, the trees, the mountains, the rivers, and the very dust of the earth. They are all organic in their own way and are all capable of chanting Namo Amituofo. If they attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land, they too can become enlightened beings. Every grain of sand, every speck of dust, every flower, and every blade of grass is a living spirit. They all possess Buddha-nature and the capacity for thought. When a thought arises, it takes form and emerges from the storehouse consciousness.
Transcending Form to Find the True Self
The universe operates through the power of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. A single thought or vibration can manifest as reality. If there is a vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land, even the grass and trees can follow this path. Although they do not produce sound, their intention is the same as ours, and Namo Amituofo knows this and will guide them to the West.
The physical body is merely a temporary vessel. Once it decays, the spirit remains. The spirit can take any form—large or small, tall or short. These are merely transformations of the spirit. If you can transform your consciousness, you will realise that your original nature is the same as all others. It is only because of our past actions and attachments that we appear different. If you can transform your consciousness once more, you will return to your original human form.
The Path of Single-Minded Devotion
Let us chant the name of Namo Amituofo with a loud and clear voice, just as we do during our morning walking meditation here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is right before your eyes. Why worry about not reaching it? Your only concern should be your lack of faith. Let go of your attachments, your discriminations, and your scattered mind.
Do not let the clouds of doubt obscure your vision or muddy the waters of your heart. Simply listen, be diligent, and let go of all wandering thoughts. Just keep chanting, and you will surely find your true self. This life is for one purpose only: to be reborn in the Western Pure Land and to help all beings do the same. This is the only vow you need.
This message was recorded by the Buddha-disciple Venerable HaiZe.
