This is a record of an interview with Mo Yun, a primordial demon who has existed for 2,061 trillion years. He sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia and now resides in the Western Land of Nature. This account reflects upon his long history in the demon realms and his eventual surrender to Namo Amituofo. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on November 12, 2024.

Mo Yun speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Mo Yun, and I currently reside in the Western Land of Dharma Nature at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. My age—my 'demon age'—is 2,061 trillion years. It is truly shameful to even mention such a number. Originally, I intended to remain silent and dwell quietly in this pure, luminous Dharma-Nature Land. However, thanks to the boundless of Namo Amituofo, He specifically called my name, allowing me to accept this interview. I wish to share my understanding of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and Namo Amituofo with the human world, the Dharma Realm, the entire universe, the Milky Way, the realms beyond the heavens, the demonic beings, and all other dimensions. I want everyone to understand the vital importance of Namo Amituofo residing at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre for the sake of all beings and the demon realms. Please, stop attacking Practitioner Su!"

A Shameful History of Two Trillion Years

"For 2,061 trillion years, I have existed within the demon realms. I have not vanished, and the 'demon deeds' I have committed are layered so thick they are beyond calculation. Every thought, every intention I had, was governed by the laws of and cause and effect—and every single one of them was evil. When I say 'evil,' I mean the infliction of suffering upon beings and spirits. I have committed heinous crimes, acts that defy the heavens and reason, and deeds of extreme cruelty. I have even destroyed entire planets, causing the beings and creatures upon them to suffer so intensely that their very souls were scattered and extinguished."

"At that time, because of these atrocities, I was admired by the elders of the demon realm and elected as their leader, at which point the previous elders stepped down. From then on, I solidified my position in the demon realm and continued to commit every evil imaginable. This was not limited to just one planet; it spanned across many. The mere mention of my name, Mo Yun, would cause others to turn pale and retreat automatically! Yet, I did not harm other demons within my own realm. Even when others attacked me, I would use my wisdom to repel them rather than engaging in mutual slaughter. It was for this reason that I earned the respect of the demon realm."

The Path of a Demon Leader

"During those two trillion years, I reigned supreme in the demon realm for nearly half that time—a full one thousand trillion years. To ordinary beings in the six realms of rebirth, one thousand trillion years is an astronomical, inconceivable figure. Perhaps some might ask: 'How could a demon live so long without being sanctioned by nature or the universal principles, surviving for two trillion years?' The reason is that I possessed meditative concentration. I could remain physically active while keeping my heart completely unmoved. I could reach a state where even a momentary flicker of thought did not arise. This was a very strict precept—a code of conduct I imposed upon myself."

"However, I was later fortunate enough to be transformed by the power of the Buddha—Namo Amituofo. It happened when I was defeated in a battle. An old demon humiliated my spirit and threatened to tear it apart, causing me unimaginable agony. My spirit was in such torment that I thought it was the end of my life as an ancient demon. Yet, in that moment, the six characters 'Namo Amituofo' surfaced in my mind. In the depths of my extreme suffering, I broke through the pain and shouted, 'Namo Amituofo!' Suddenly, a brilliant light appeared before me, covering me completely. In an instant, I was liberated and transported to a place of darkness, silent and devoid of any sound. I understood then that the light was the Buddha-light of Namo Amituofo; it was He who had saved me."

The Moment the Golden Light Appeared

"From that day on, I never appeared in the demon realm again. The other demons assumed I had been 'taken away by space'—a term used in the demon realm to describe . Because demons fear the consequences of their actions, they avoid saying 'karmic retribution' and instead say 'taken away by space.' But everyone knows deep down that being 'taken away by space' is simply the sanction of cause and effect."

"Two trillion years ago, when I was still a 'little demon,' Namo Amituofo already existed as the Universal Buddha. There was not a single demon who did not know His name. Any being existing in the Dharma Realm knew of Namo Amituofo. He is the King of the Dharma Realm. No matter who they were, everyone acknowledged Him as the King—even the demons. But they could not control their own hearts and actions, so they remained demons. The existence of demons is incredibly ancient; I do not know when it began. But according to the Buddha’s teachings, where there is a Buddha, there is a demon. Since the Buddha has existed for eons beyond counting, we know that demons have also existed for eons beyond counting."

"After the demon clouds were illuminated by the Buddha-light and began chanting Namo Amituofo, they were held back by the voices of the demon crowds. When the Buddha-light moved away from the demon clouds, I let out a sigh. 'Alas! Do I still have a mission to fulfil?' I wondered. But I had been away from the Demon Realm for so long—what use could I possibly be? At that moment, I wanted to enter samadhi again, to wait in that deep meditative state for the next time the Buddha-light of Namo Amituofo would shine, so that I could follow it. However, the voices of the demon crowds reached me. Some were weeping, others were sighing in sorrow, yet at the same time, I heard cheers, sounds of gratitude, and the chanting of Namo Amituofo. This mixture of sounds left me, Mo Yun, feeling perplexed. How could sorrow and exist simultaneously? Since I had already emerged from samadhi, I decided to observe further."

The Truth of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

"I entered a deep meditative state and saw the truth: Namo Amituofo is currently residing at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre on Earth. I saw in my meditation how Practitioner Su appears, constantly manifesting light in the Demon Realm to subdue the demon crowds and dismantle the demon palaces. My heart became clear and bright, without a second thought: Namo Amituofo has come to the Dharma Realm to save everyone and deliver the demon crowds! In my two thousand trillion years of existence, I have experienced too much suffering and witnessed too much sorrow. I have also endured the agony of the physical body, only to find this current tranquility. During these one thousand trillion years of samadhi, my spirit should have been purifying, and my heart was settled, yet my spirit remained a void of darkness. When I emerged from samadhi, I appeared as a mass of demonic energy—black and dense. This was a complex situation. Why? It meant that although my heart was settled, it was merely suppressed by my meditative concentration; all the underlying issues still existed, including the environment of the Demon Realm where I had resided. Perhaps it was time for me to step forward."

A Return to the Demon Kingdom

"I returned to the demon kingdom I had once established, but everything had changed; the demon palace no longer existed. The demon peers I encountered were stunned by my appearance and kept their distance. A few old demons, sensing that I was no ordinary ancient demon, approached and asked, 'May we ask for the name of our senior?' I replied calmly, 'My name is Mo Yun.' Some did not know how to respond, but one old demon suddenly recalled, 'Could it be the legendary Demon Ancestor Mo Yun?' I said, 'That was a very, very long time ago, but yes, it is I!' Soon, the news of the return of Demon Ancestor Mo Yun spread throughout the Demon Realm."

A Call to Surrender

"I told everyone my story: 'I, Mo Yun, am now going to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia to surrender to the King of the Dharma Realm, Namo Amituofo, and to Practitioner Su, who frequently comes to the Dharma Realm to save demons. If any of you wish to follow me, come along! Namo Amituofo is the one whom all beings should follow; He is our ultimate destination! Once there, we will surely receive the protection of Namo Amituofo, no longer needing to live in fear, and we will attain the light.' My words echoed throughout the Dharma Realm. In a very short time, an immense number of old demons, demon kings, and their demon children and grandchildren gathered. I looked into their hearts and saw they were filled with fear, terror, and helplessness. In truth, many demons appear fierce on the surface, but deep down, this is how they truly feel. At that moment, they were willing to surrender to Namo Amituofo, filled with anticipation, even if they had never heard His holy name before."

The Gathering at Hsiang Kuang

"Mo Yun led... looking back now, a vast number of demons—approximately twelve thousand demon beings from Earth—arrived at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. We did not come to attack Practitioner Su, but to surrender to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. Such a massive number of demons filled the entire sky, like a thick layer of dark clouds. However, everyone was arranged in perfect order, kneeling and begging to surrender. It was during a , and I believe many of the fourfold assembly must have seen the sky. Many beings witnessed the demon crowds covering the heavens—whether they were those with open eyes, earthly creatures, or those in the spiritual realms, all must have seen the sky filled with black clouds. We were not there to attack Practitioner Su or the fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, but to seek refuge. 'The leader is Mo Yun, who has existed for two thousand and sixty-one trillion years!' Afterwards, under the illumination of the Buddha-light, we all entered the Western Land of Dharma Nature, the place of light where I now reside."

Namo Amituofo Abides Here

"Today, Mo Yun shares these experiences from the Demon Realm so that everyone may understand that the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is a temple where Namo Amituofo is truly residing. I must solemnly tell the public again: Namo Amituofo is currently residing at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. Namo Amituofo is the King of the Dharma Realm, the Universal Buddha, omnipresent and everywhere, saving beings and demon crowds. The existence of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is ancient beyond measure, as is the existence of Namo Amituofo. This Buddha is one whom everyone should respect, revere, and even kneel before to beg for deliverance; He is absolutely not an object for demonic magical attacks."

The Compassion of Practitioner Su

"You must know that Practitioner Su, who has saved countless demon crowds, is also a manifestation of Namo Amituofo; otherwise, how could one possess such a great vow and mind-capacity to save so many demon crowds across the Earth, the Milky Way, the universe, the heavens beyond heavens, and the demonic and alien realms? These words come from the mouth of Mo Yun, so please, everyone, believe them. Namo Amituofo, in His great compassion, manifested one of His countless incarnations—each with infinite Bodhisattvas—to be born on Earth as Practitioner Su. Through thirty years of demonstrating the practice of the Buddha’s teachings, he finally recovered his original Buddha-nature and awakened to save all beings! Those who have had karmic affinity with the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss over these thirty years are, in fact, beings of the Western Land returning one after another. Practitioner Su suffers on behalf of all beings and, unafraid of slander, continues to save them. This has moved the golden body of Namo Amituofo to manifest at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and Practitioner Su, following Namo Amituofo, has transformed and saved countless spirits, heavenly beings, ghosts, and beings of the six realms, as well as those in the Four Sacred Realms and other worlds."

A Warning Against Attacks

"I hope everyone hears these words of Mo Yun, especially every demon being—not just those in the Dharma Realm, but those on Earth, in the Milky Way, the universe, the heavens beyond heavens, and the alien demon realms. Stop your magical attacks on Practitioner Su immediately. Every bit of attack against Practitioner Su falls under the laws of karma and cause and effect, without the slightest error. You are not creating an evil affinity with Practitioner Su; rather, every demon that attacks him is saved by him and sent into the Western Land of Dharma Nature. Practitioner Su suffers in his own body to save the demon crowds—this is something only Namo Amituofo could do! Moreover, the demon crowds coming to attack Practitioner Su number in the hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of Earths. How can you bear such karmic retribution? And what is the logic of casting spells to attack his body, especially his old wounds? Oh, demon crowds! The old wounds on Practitioner Su’s body are scars left behind from saving beings and demons. How can you bear to attack those very places?"

The Grace of the Western Land of Dharma Nature

"Practitioner Su is fortunate to have the Buddha-light and the protectors of the Western Land within his body, allowing him to endure the attacks of so many demons while never retreating from his heart to save them. He often says, 'I am very valuable, which is why the demons attack me. The demons are children who have no one to teach them; only when they attack me can I save them.' When Practitioner Su is attacked, besides knowing where the demons are casting their spells, he uses the Twelve Lights and the great chime bowl to send them into the Western Land of Dharma Nature. Beyond the chanting during the Thrice Yearning Ceremonies, he spends nine hours a day giving lectures to the demons and beings in the Dharma-Nature Land, teaching them about the Buddha’s teachings, Namo Amituofo, and the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This not only benefits the beings listening on-site but also causes the demons in the Dharma-Nature Land to feel such gratitude that they weep in repentance."

A Final Plea for Wisdom

"The Western Land of Dharma Nature is a bright Buddha-land. There, one is not seized by karmic retribution, not bound by space; there is no fear, no darkness, only light and peace of mind. This is a Buddha-land that can only exist because the Buddha is there. Demon crowds, Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su are so compassionate; they invite you to the Western Land of Dharma Nature, replace your demon bodies, and make you shine with light. This place is so bright that it removes your original blackness, turning your hearts toward the light. You will see yourselves not as the demons you once were, but as your own bright selves. For a demon, this grace is too great to measure. You should be rushing to respect, protect, and repay this kindness—how could there be any reason to cast spells and attack? Furthermore, Namo Amituofo has repeatedly warned the demons that attacking Practitioner Su will result in the retribution of becoming dull-witted, blind, crippled, or suffering from facial decay. The Buddha does not speak falsely; these retributions are truly agonizing. Some demons have already suffered these consequences and have surrendered to seek the Buddha’s salvation. Even for those in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, while they are protected from karmic retribution within the Buddha-land, if they ever have the chance to attain a human body or return to the six realms, the retribution will be miserable."

Gratitude and Conclusion

"The above is what Mo Yun knows and speaks, without a shred of falsehood. Because I deeply understand the terror of cause and effect, I, Mo Yun, solemnly advise the demon crowds once more: do not cast spells against Practitioner Su and the fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Stop your attacks quickly and surrender to enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature. This is the wise choice for all demons—a golden opportunity to turn your karma around."

"I am grateful for the compassion of my Buddha. Through countless eons until this very day, He has continuously saved beings and demons at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, allowing everyone to leave suffering behind, turn from evil to good, chant the Buddha’s name to enter the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, and giving me, Mo Yun, the chance to speak these words."

"I am grateful to Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, who sits at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, for his teachings to the demon crowds regarding karmic retribution and many other matters, allowing everyone to realize their mistakes and turn back. I am grateful to Practitioner Su for saving countless beings and demons, giving everyone the chance to enter the Western Land of Dharma Nature. I am also grateful to the fourfold assembly for their preparations and the rich offerings during the Thrice Yearning Ceremonies. Although we do not need food, as we survive by absorbing the infinite energy of the Western Land of Dharma Nature, seeing it fills our hearts with joy. I am grateful to everyone!"

"Namo Amituofo."
