This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Lei Yucheng, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his transition and his message to his niece, Lay Practitioner Lei Hulan. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on April 29, 2022.
Lei Yucheng speaks:
". Once a person passes away, they truly lose the ability to govern their own destiny. I had no idea where my spirit would end up. While we are alive, we drift along with the currents of fate; after we die, we are carried along by the laws of and cause and effect. The name 'Lei Yucheng' was simply the label I used in the world. Once I was dead, aside from myself knowing who I was, no one else cared. And this is not just true for me—everyone currently living is going through this very same process, whether they realise it or not.
Hulan, it is your uncle. I have been drifting according to the habits and preferences I held during my life, following the momentum of my own karma. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me find my way back and for retrieving this spirit of mine.
In the beginning, I must admit that I did not believe in anything happening at this Buddha-land. Everything here was simply too far beyond human imagination; to me, these things were far too avant-garde. It was only later, after listening to the sutras here, that I finally understood. I realised that the inconceivable phenomena I was witnessing were what is called 'magnificent.' I have been incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to experience this.
Hulan, I have heard that you intend to reside at this place in the future, and I am so happy for you. You have always been a child with deep good roots, and you have always been so willing to help others. That is the only reason you were able to encounter such a profound today. You must remember: once you arrive, you must wholeheartedly assist the temple in spreading Dharma, and you must practise with the utmost sincerity.
I also hope that in the future, if the opportunity arises, you can help our family members come to believe as well, so they too can understand the vital importance of learning the Buddha's teachings. Truly, there is nothing in this life worth arguing or fussing over. Life is far too short; it passes in the blink of an eye.
Since my spirit arrived at this Buddha-land, it has undergone significant purification. I have been trying to change every single day. Through this daily purification and daily transformation, I have shed my past self. Only by doing so could I gain the insights necessary to record these words. Perhaps my family will notice that I am different now—and that is because I truly am different. After listening to the teachings, I made the firm decision to seek rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Now, I have arrived in the West, and everything is wonderful.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped me. Thank you, Hulan, for helping your uncle receive Chao Du; it was only through your efforts that I had the chance to see the Buddha. I hope that many more people can wake up from the illusions of this world and come to see the Buddha as well.
