A Soul's Escape from the Hells

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wang Yulin, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey through the cycle of rebirth and his eventual deliverance. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fa, on February 3, 2023.

Lay Practitioner Wang Yulin speaks:

"It is truly beyond my expectation to realise that I have been away from the human world for such a long time. As this thought crossed my mind, I immediately began to think of my family members back in the world. I wondered if they were doing well, and suddenly, the image of my old home appeared right before my eyes. The feeling was both strangely familiar and yet entirely foreign to me now."

The Endless Cycle of Samsara

"As I look back upon this life, and indeed upon all my many lives throughout the cycle of rebirth, every single scene plays out before me like a television programme. How could there be so much to see? It seems as though it will never end. I have truly been trapped in the cycle of rebirth for an incredibly long time. It is absolutely terrifying to witness, especially when I look back at the time I spent suffering in the hells. It is only now that I truly understand that one must never create karma. Once you have created negative karma, the retribution you are forced to endure is simply unbearable."

The Agony of the Hells

"I want to tell all of you: you cannot even begin to imagine how much suffering I endured in the hells! Every single day was a living nightmare. My mouth bled incessantly, and the pain was so intense that I could not even scream. Day after day, I was subjected to endless torture. If it were not for the power of Practitioner Su, I would never have been able to escape that place. I must express my deepest gratitude to Practitioner Su; it was he who helped me emerge from the depths of hell. I also want to thank my niece, Lay Practitioner Wang Hong, because it was through her efforts to arrange my Chao Du that I gained the merit to arrive at this place. Being here, I am truly saved! I have so much gratitude that I long to express."

A New Beginning in the Pure Land

"I am determined to cherish this precious opportunity for rebirth. All the wrongdoings I committed in the past out of ignorance, I now truly repent for with my whole heart. I will conduct myself properly and follow closely by the side of the Buddha to study the Dharma with sincerity. I do not want to continue in the cycle of rebirth ever again; the cycle of rebirth is simply too painful!"

A Message to the Living

"To those of you in the world who knew me—my family, my friends—please, listen to my words. Everything in this world is transient; in the end, you cannot take a single thing with you. However, I have seen that the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia is truly a Pure Land. You can come here; this place will save you. Only then will we be able to meet again in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss! You must believe me. I will be here, waiting for you all."
