This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Fang Wang Liumei, the grandmother of Lay Practitioner Fang Qiurong, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition and her final, heartfelt message to her descendants. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on June 23, 2023.
Lay Practitioner Fang Wang Liumei speaks:
". When I first made the decision to travel to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I knelt before the Buddha. I felt incredibly fortunate, truly blessed, to see the Buddha standing right before my eyes. I have been constantly bathed in the Buddha’s light. All those heavy, lingering memories from my past—the things I once found so difficult to let go of—were simply washed away by that brilliant, gentle light. My entire body and mind were filled with the cooling, refreshing nectar of the Buddha’s .
After my granddaughter, Fang Qiurong, helped my spirit reach the Buddha-land, my journey was one of profound change. At first, I was not used to this place; I was still clinging to the habits and attachments of the world. But as time passed, I began to feel the Buddha’s compassion every single day. Looking back, this shift in my heart and mind happened so naturally, like a flower blooming in the morning sun.
My physical form now feels light as a feather. The aches and pains that once plagued me in the human world have vanished completely. I feel so free, so unburdened, and because of this, I am filled with a that I never knew was possible. I know that you, my family, must be waiting for me to say something, to offer some final words. I have thought about this deeply, and I have decided to let go of all the worries and attachments I once held for you. Only by truly letting go can I honour the grace of the Buddha who led me here.
To those of you still living in the world, I know you face many things—some that go your way, and many that do not. Life is full of ups and downs, but I truly hope you will not take these things so deeply to heart. Do not let the world weigh you down. In my own life, I spent so many years suppressing my , swallowing my bitterness, and holding onto things I could not release. It was a heavy, painful way to live. I hope, with all my heart, that you do not have to follow that same path.
If you can just shift your perspective, you will find that many situations lead to entirely different results. This is something I have come to understand deeply during my time here in the Buddha-land, listening to the teachings. In the world you live in, people often feel that if they do not protect themselves or assert their own importance, they cannot survive. But often, this way of living requires hurting others, and in doing so, one inevitably carries the burden of the laws of and cause and effect. I do not want you to live like that. If you have ever acted in such a way, I hope that from this moment on, you can change.
Now that I have a deeper understanding of the laws of karma and cause and effect, I feel it is my duty—perhaps in this final opportunity I have to speak with you—to share these truths. I no longer have a physical body, so I cannot be by your side as I once was, but I hope that my descendants will take my counsel to heart. I do not want to see your hearts bound by unnecessary chains, nor do I want you to be overly stubborn or competitive. Such things only end up hurting you in the end.
If the conditions are right, I hope you will all learn to embrace the Buddha’s compassion. The Buddha has the power to calm your hearts, to bring you peace, and to guide you toward the Truth so that you no longer have to carry the heavy weight of . I never spoke of these things when I was with you; these are insights I have only recently come to grasp. It is my deepest wish that my descendants can benefit from these words and live lives of peace and joy.
